So i got my shiney new Samsung LN40A550 and its hooked up to my pc via VGA right now, everything is working find and PQ seems to be pretty good. Is it worth my time to get a DVI-->HDMI cable?

If you v-card supports dvi/hdmi and your monitor supports either one as well, then yes. DVI/HDMI > VGA.

depending on your monitor/TV DVI-DVI will be just as good as DVI-HDMI ,regardless, a digital signal (DVI/HDMI) will be much better than an analog signal (VGA). As an FYI HDMI is DVI with audio, since a majority of home theaters use receivers and amplifiers, the Audio will most likely not go through the TV anyways so HDMI is mostly just for convenience.
