Hi,
I appreciate the help from my other thread, I have 4 receivers here in my local shop and would like your opinions on which one I should get for the price/quality etc, the main use i have for this receiver is the ps3 and its true hd dts hd sound 7.1 etc. Prices are in New Zealand dollars. Onkyo TX-SR606B $1288 Onkyo TX-SR705B $1658 Pioneer VSXLX70 $1986 Yamaha RXV1900 $2056 what are your recommendations? cheers. |

Well the Pioneer and Yamaha are on a whole different level than the Onkyo's. Those are what you what call budget receivers and the Pioneer and Yamaha and in the mid to semi high level receivers. If you want a comparable Onkyo you would have to look at the 805/806 875/876 and the top dog 905/906.
The Yamaha, Pioneer and the Onkyo's I listed are all very good receivers. It just depends what you like. I myself would go for an Onkyo (but the ones I listed) rather than the 2 you listed, otherwise Yamaha 1900 no doubt. |

I think Onkyos are generally considered stronger for home theater and the Yammy is stronger for music. I say if it's main purpose will be home theater, go for one of the Onkyos. If you think you might use external amps one day, get the 705 for the pre outs. If you need plenty of HDMI inputs, go for the 606.
That's my two cents. |

I would suggest you also consider Harman Kardon & Marantz.

The RX-V1900 is an excellent receiver and I beleive is the replacement for the RX-V1800.
In Canada we also have an HTR line, which is sold primarily at major B&M stores with the RX-V line sold mostly at independents and higher end audio shops. Don't let this lead you into thinking that the RX-V line is superior as it is NOT. It's just marketing strategy on Yamaha's behalf. I have the HTR-6190B, which is equivalent to the RX-V1800 and I am very pleased with it. I chose the Yamaha as my setup also doubles (for now) as my 2-channel audio rig. As someone who basically has the same amp that you are looking it, I can give you my highest recommendation for this model. However, have a look at the Marantz/Denon lines as well. I almost went with the Denon 3808, but in the end chose the Yamaha as the deal was too good to ignore. Good luck in your search and let us know what you ended up getting. |

It's a rumour thats all. I belive someone reviewed both recievers and gave there opinion and Onkyo owners ran with it. All around : music and theater sound, for Yamaha is a excellent.I can say that because i know first hand what Yamaha can do . Movies sound more than amazing in my setup and i heard quit a few recievers with the set up i have. Onkyo from what i hear is an exellent reciever as well and the owners are very happy.I heard nothing bad about Onkyo except that it can get very hot at times,But i don't know that first hand. Two different recievers,Two different personalities,Two different sounds And thats my 2 cents Peace out ![]() Last edited by ozzman; 11-12-2008 at 12:08 AM. |
