Default Stop Buying Blu-Rays?

Wait... don't mob me just yet! I'm asking, not stating the question.

Today I was turned onto a product called Vudu (vudu.com) and it seems like everything the Roko, AppleTV and other contenders were trying to do is now done right - even with 1080p movies on demand.

Now, myself I am a hugh BD collector, but this made me question my obsession... I mean hobby.

Please, somebody tell me that I haven't wasted thousands of dollars. I mean, other than requiring a network connection and the immediacey of having a physical disc, what's the advantage one way or the other (except that this service effectively can save a lot of money)?

im pretty sure that the file sizes on downloadable content are not as big as files on a bd disk. Although it may be 1080p, the dl content does not have the same pq/aq as a blu

I don't think it would be any different than downloading the movies in HD off the PSN. You would get HD PQ but not AQ. Also the PQ would not be as good as Blu.

All I can say is these post make me crack up with laughter so much. If you think you wasted your money then you have. We all who love Blus know we haven't and never will waste our money on Blu. So, I am not laughing at you for dissing Blus. What I am laughing at is of om fact you did spend thousands of dollars only to question yourself like this is pathetic.

Blu ain't goin anywhere

Look at it this way... in order to stream/download a movie onto any player via internet, they have to make it small, small enough to "quickly" transfer onto your device/computer. A Blu-ray disc holds 50 GB of data, that is 50 GB of video, audio, and more. These movies are ALWAYS compressed to usually within 2 GB. A DVD movie has more space than that. Now if you think you can't see or hear the difference, think again.
These files are small, HIGHLY compressed in both video and audio, usually contain dolby 5.1 at best and not HD sound, and have no extras or options. There are rarely subtitles, there are never language options, there are never deleted scenes, nor commentary, nor games, etc. These downloads are bare bones stripped of all its flavor "movies".
The data that Blu-ray holds and can transfer is noticed, by most everyone, and is a big difference. They have interactive content, extras, deleted scenes, downloadable content, and more. Sometimes they even have alternate cuts of the film and DVD/digital copies.

Blu-ray is a far better value than any digital download, especially since nowadays more and more Blu-rays come WITH digital downloads. Don't waste your money on the product that is over hyped and have only .1% of the market... stick with the product that is under-appreciated but is growing quickly in popularity and have 13% of the market. Blu-ray!

I think the Vudu.com web site in your message explains all the answers you have about Vudu, so do some research and you will find the answer you want. It's up to you. However, if you are going to leave disc now, there is a For Sale section on the forum and many of us will buy your disc so you can invest in Vudu. Good Luck

vudu.com? seriously? if the highest pq/aq isn't your thing then you might as well stop purchasing blus. no reason for anyone here to try and convince you otherwise. also, i'm assuming that aq is not important to you?

The biggest problem with this is that most movies in 1080p are only rentals and not buys to "own".
If you buy a movie in SD it is still $14.99 !!!

Hence way too expensive for SD, and no buy to own HD!

next...
