Default if there was 'on demand' that had every movie in HD, would you stop getting Blu-rays?

If there was an on demand program like netflix instant watch which goes to the TV, and had every movie in HD, for a monthly fee, would you switch from blu-ray to that?

Do you think something like this will eventually come out in the next 2-3 years??

Are we talking about the impossibility of getting it in true 1080p {not the upscaled garbage that is put over the airwaves now} with the same bitrate of Blu-Ray?

If so, I'll take a flying car with that and a side order of a trip to Mars for vacation.

It *MAY* eventually happen, but it won't be any time soon.

Absolutely not.
There's just something about looking at your shelf and knowing you OWN these films. Like little blue gorgeous trophies.

Weird, I know.

same here, I would probably get both... been using the netflix streaming and it has pretty much replaced TV since it is so convenient, but having a collection is definitely more personal

I wasn't impressed with the steaming it's non-HD..I'd imagine they'll upgrade eventually though.

HECK NO. It's not the same, having theabilty to hold the Blu in your hands is like a drug. it's great and won't replace Blu-ray.

On Demand or streaming would be more compressed, have lower bitrates resulting in softer PQ and would not have 5 or 7.1 HD audio or any special features.

So no for me.

I probably would if it were identical in video and AUDIO quality to Bluray. That is a big problem with digital downloads is that although the video is fairly comparable, the audio is garbage. People argue that its in 5.1, but just because its in 5.1 doesnt mean it sounds good.

If I can download 'em I would. But, not on demand. Now, only if it came with lossless audio. And even then that would take some major bandwidth! 50mbps+ at least.

+1

But it being identical will not happen for quite awhile if ever atleast here in the states. Now in some of the countries with state sponsered internet that have a very fast connection it might and would do very well I would think.

I wouldn't stop buying discs, but it would definitely be nice for movies that haven't been released on blu yet.
