Default PS3 will not display HDMI when receiver is in path

I have the NAD T765 AV Receiver. I have 2 HDMI inputs already hooked up and working without issue (Oppo Digital DVD, and HD PVR Cable box). I recently purchased a Playstation 3 (80GB MGS bundle) and attempted to hook it up via HDMI (and Digital Optical for audio). I get the audio out my speakers (all psb inwalls) but do not get any signal or video output from my projector (Panasonic PT-AE2000U (capable of 1080p). If I connect the PS3 directly to the projector I get video output at the time. The minute I connect it back through the Receiver I lose the video output again. I have tried various HDMI cables including the one that I know works on my Oppo Digital (all my HDMI cables are AudioQuest HDMI-X (3.5m length from projector)(1.0m length for receiver to PS3 (or other components)

I have tried it with all inputs HDMI 1, 2, or 3 via the Receiver menu. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. I have also hooked the PS3 upto a LCD TV (Panasonic TH-32LX600) via HDMI and get both audio and video. So the problem appears the combination of the Receiver and PS3 (not one on their own).

I have taken steps at sony.com to plug in both composite and HDMI. Hold the start button on the PS3 threw a complete cycle to reset the video mode to SD. Went into the menu to select HDMI. The display changes for 30 seconds. I change over to the HDMI input on receiver and projector .. and have no signal.

Any ideas .. anyone seen this issue. I am at a loss for what is going on.

Sounds like its something wrong with a setting in the receivers menu. Also, you might want to consider using the HDMI for Audio as you can then get the HD formats to play...

You need to uncheck the 1080P box in the video settings in your PS3. Your TV only goes up to 720 and your PS3 is trying to display the image in 1080P. Once you uncheck the box, it should work fine.

Unfortunately for the NAD T765 (not sure why they limited themselves like this)

Manual states:
HDMI supports transmission of video signals only. For audio signal, you may feed into any digital inputs of the T 765 your HDMI source’s optical or coaxial digital audio output and correspondingly assign it as your particular HDMI input’s digital audio source.

So I have to use (in the case of PS3) Digital Optical cable for my audio

In the menu you can basically choose your video output Video/Component/SVideo/HDMI. I select HDMI .. and then have a choice of 3 HDMI inputs. I have tried it on each. Other devices are on 1 and 2 and they work fine. Only the PS3 has this issue.

the receiver isnt capable of passing the 1080p stream, i have the same issue with my samsung receiver and that is the problem. Uncheck 1080p as an output and that should cure it.

The projector is the Panasonic AE2000U .. it has resolution upto 1080p.

Plus I can hook my PS3 upto either my 32" LCD (PT-32LX600U) which only supports 720p/1080i or my 58" Plasma (PT-58PX600) which again is only 720p/1080i and it works fine on both.

The only scenario where this fails with with the following config:

PS3 --HDMI--> Receiver (NAD T765) --HDMI--> Projector (AE200U)

When you hook it up to your tv's, are you hooking it up via HDMI?

If by chance the problem is a limitation of the receiver. Currently I have a HD PVR connected through the receiver that *claims* it's output 1080p. Now I do have some doubts.

So right now the config I have .. which isn't much of an issue. Since the projector has 3 HDMI inputs. I ran 3 HDMI cables through the ceiling during construction and back to my wiring closet. I only had HDMI 1 hooked up to the HDMI output of the receiver. So I have two devices on HDMI 1 and 2. I had planned PS3 or HDMI 3. But since that isn't working.. I took one of the 2 remaining HDMIs that go directly to the projector and hooked them direct. So the PS3's HDMI output is bypassing the receiver and going direct to projector. And the Digital Optical from PS3 is going to receiver. So in the receiver menu for that source .. is has Video=off, and Audio=Optical3. Just mean I have to remember to change input to HDMI2 on my projector when I play PS3 .. as everything else is on HDMI1.

But it would be nice to just hook it up as it appears it should be. Just can't figure this out. Have a question into the receiver manufacturer .. but 6 days with no reply.

Yes, in all scenarios where I was troubleshooting my hooking PS3 directly to TVs (both LCD and Plasma) .. I was using just an HDMI cable (AudioQuest HDMI-X).. and it worked fine.

That was part of my initial troubleshooting .. as the PS3 was brand new, I wanted to ensure it wasn't the issue. Doesn't appear to be.

OP: Without buying any new stuff, first try connecting the PS3's composite cable to your PJ and run the HDMI to the receiver. See if you can get the receiver to play uncompressed PCM over HDMI. If you can, then you don't have to buy a new receiver. Just get a HDMI splitter to split the signal between your PJ and receiver.

If your receiver can't accept uncompressed PCM over HDMI, then you can choose to run optical for lossy audio OR you can get a new receiver to enjoy both uncompressed/lossless audio and 1080p24 video.

Did you assign the HDMI input to a Source on the A/V?
Have you tried connecting the PS3 to one of the HDMI inputs that you are already using?

3 1080p HDMI Video Inputs switch to 1 Output, freely assignable
It does do 1080p, so the video not displaying through his receiver, might just be something as simple as a setting, on either the PS3 or NAD.

I don't have any experience with NAD, so I really can't help, sorry.

just wish NAD would get back to me. Submitted a question to them via their tech support 6 days ago. I might consider doing the same at the Sony PS3 website .. Asked at my local EBGames and Futureshop and nobody has seen this before. NAD is not that common .. so that is why I am leaning towards a receiver issue.

At this rate might have a slightly used receiver for sale

This sounds like a good idea if you haven't tried it yet. Use a known good HDMI port on your receiver.

Yes, I have already tried HDMI ports 1, 2, and 3. Same result. No video from the PS3. Any other HDMI device I hook up works fine (Oppo DVD, HD PVR)

I have navigated the onscreen menu for the NAD T765 receiver many many times and looked at every possible option.

Just can't seem to figure this out. Driving me nuts

Oh I see you tried that.. When you hooked up the PS3 to your LCD TV, did you run it through the receiver, or directly to the TV?
