Default PS3 Display Question HDMI to DVI

I have a new PS3 that i am connecting to my Samsung 30" Widescreen HDTV Tube. The television has a DVI input but not a HDMI, so i got a monster cable DVI to HDMI Convertor and connected it with a HDMI cable. I cannot get a picture on the television. I know the HDMI output on the PS3 works because I hooked it up to a LG 32" LCD. Now the question I have is that I have read on the forums is that the TV or Display needs to be HDCP complaint. My television manual states

"By inputting a high bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) picture source to the Digital Input Jack on the TV, high definition pictures can be displayed on the screen in there digital forms."

Does the TV need this HDCP or is the PS3 sending a signal that is HDCP and the Television just needs to decode that? I am confused because by the manual statement above, my television supports it, right?

2 suggestions...

buy an HDMI-DVI cable...converters are not necessary and may even be the problem.

next, did you change the input on the tv itself, to DVI?

well, looking at the manual it does say its HDCP compatible.

so the issue seems to be lying in the actual connection. Does anything else work through the DVI input?

also, have you tried to reset of the PS3? while its off (red light) press and hold the power button on the console until you hear it beep twice?

You have to hold the Ps3 power button till it beeps.... Also if that doesnt work, set it up with component, then switch the ps3 option to hdmi quickly change it and press accept within the 30 seconds, because the ps3 is probably not recognizing the HDMI since it has a converter on it.

lol yes, this worked just last week when i returned it for the ps3 (see above), also i have tried the reset and applying the hdmi setting manually in the settings menu, nothing, i tried just hooking up hdmi with out any other connection because i have updated to the lastest firmware, nothing, i tried a way that i saw online to connect the hdmi to the tv with it unplugged, turn on the ps3, plug in the tv, then turn it on, hoping the ps3 would then recognized the hdmi to dvi. nothing.

Is there going to be a big difference in picture quality if i run 720p through component rather than 720p through hdmi, especially on a 30" television

This might be a "handshake" issue between the PS-3 and the Samsung TV. I have a Westinghouse LVM-37w1 that has a DVI input for 1080p sources. When I have 1080p selected on the PS-3 video output, I get horizontal noise. I have to unplug the HDMI Cable from the PS-3 and re-insert it. This is a weak soulution to the problem, but it is the only way I can view 1080p content on my TV.

My guess would be the PS3 is out putting a signal your TV can not handle. Did you try forcing the PS3 down? The auto detect should do it but just a thought.

I have the same setup, different TV, but HDMI to DVI from a PS3 and it works fine.

have you "manually" selected the hdmi video output resolutions? (720p/1080i) perhaps the PS3 is trying to output at 1080p and your set cannot accept it?

are you doing this with only the HDMI cable connected? (hdmi should be only connection)

try this...turn completely off (flip switch in the back), unplug for a minute or so...plug back in, flip switch back on and press and hold the power button till it beeps twice...
