yeah, Home looks awesome (and I'm not even a big online chat type guy). It's a great idea by Sony that should help to repair its somewhat injured image within the gaming community.

Just look at The Sims - best selling PC game of all time.

But for free, with better, easier customisation, crazy media integration with sharing, other people to share the whole experience with basically.

If that's the final product (or close to it), game over for x box live. Don't get me wrong, I like the dashboard on my 360, but it looks childish. The only thing you can do is change the background, but everything else remains the same.

MS aren't bad at doing "cool" looking front ends, but they never seem to hit the right target when doing "fun" - Home looks like a lot of fun.

If this takes off it will give every other online life app a run for their money!

I prefer the original Xbox's dashboard from a style point of view, they outsourced it's visual design unlike the 360's so that's no surprise to me.

What bugs me most about the 360 dash is the speed and layout of navigation. To get at system options or even just starting up a demo you have to go through many full screen, too-long transitions and dig down through several layers of headings. With the XMB you zip across the icons with lightning speed and nothings hidden more than three layers deep - and it all branches out so you can see where you are in relation to the layer of options above.

I find the dashboard hiccups with pauses during screen transitions, like I'd expect from a PC, not an optimised, fixed hardware spec console.

Don't get me started with the Guide, with its low-res blurriness, slide in/out jerkiness during games, tearing, long pauses without control response and generally-looks-crap overlaid on games appearance.

But maybe I'm picky? I think MS's designers lack the eye for style and polish.

Yeah quickness and clarity of access wins hands down. Out does Apple even. The "hidden" triangle was the only initial gotcha but once you know it's there. It's a brilliant design..so quick to get anywhere. Quick quick quick.

It's even better when you pick up a psp and have the same interface in front of you

Nice Q&A about home questions here:

I learned alot from that even after watching the video and a few other things.

Check out these things G4TV has said about the PS3 early February.

...(Microsoft) set the bar when it comes to online gaming on a console."

"Can Sony hope to catch up with their online network?"

There better be a better plan in the works because MGS4 is not going to save this system"

"Until the Playstation 3 has not 1, but SEVERAL killer apps for their system it's still just an oversized (inaudible) press. I'm sorry."

Now, 30 days later,

Home is revealed and is better, MUCH better then Xbox Live in every shape and form.

Now as for PS3 needing several killer apps, how can the XBOX 360 get the pass for having just 1 killer app, Gears of War, which was released 12 months after Xbox 360's launch?

Idiots. Who cares though, in the next year to year and a half Sony will have 3 exclusive killer apps: Final Fantasy 13, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5

Devil May Cry 4
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Final Fantasy XIII
God of War III
Gran Turismo 5
Heavenly Sword
ICO/SotC Team Game (Shadow of the Colossus hit #1 in the UK to everyone's surprise!)
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
Killzone
L.A. Noire
Lair
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Monster Hunter 3 (Monster Hunter Portable 2 has sold over 800,000 copies in two weeks in Japan alone)
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Resistance: Fall of Man
SingStar PS3 (Another HUGE seller in Europe, 7 million copies sold on PS2 to date)
Tekken 6
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Warhawk
White Knight
WipEout
SOCOM 4

If that's not an amazing list of already-revealed exclusives, I don't know what is! Those are just my top-quality picks as well.

This PS3 home feature RAISES the bar for Online community through the use of game consoles.

And since it's FREE (no payment right?), then you have nothing to lose.

It's looking smooth indeed.

Default Playstation Home Beta Sign-up starting...

Just received mail to sign up for the Playstation 3 Home Beta ... it looks like you have to sign-up for the *chance* to be selected. I repeat the invitation did not make me part of the Beta..just the chance to be part of it..

Here was the message after submitting..

"THANKS!

If you signed up for the Home beta test and are one of the lucky few chosen to participate, we will notify you via email. Good Luck!"

Wish me luck and you to..
