A New Low (Rumor) - Blu-ray Forum

This is to be confirmed, but an anonymous poster on a game forum has posted that the Famitsu numbers for last week would be as follow:

Xbox 360 - 6000 units
PS3 - 4800 units

No surprise on the 360 level, it's still going down after their exclu "Infinite Undiscovery". As far as Japan goes, their pice dump has had little to no effect.

But the PS3 ? Wth ?

In fact, I know why we are hitting these new lows, but seriously, with The Last Remnant arriving on Nov 20th, it's like SCEJ is doing everything they can to give market shares to MS.
Seems to me that Sony has bet the whole end of year (in Japan at least) on LBP, Oct. 30th in Japan.

Now, about the reason of this drop over two weeks (from an avrage 8-9k units to a 5k and less): how wise was it to announce the new 80gb Bundles a whole month (or more) before they would be available?

I don't know, but after giving away the month of Spetember on their home turf, Sony is getting ready to hand away October as well.

The amount and type of releases of exclusives on the PS3 in Japan (some would argue in the whole world) for the past three months has been abysmal to top it off.

My question now is - how wise is it really to keep all your eggs (games) for the same period? I don't know, it seems kinda counter productive to me, but hey, what do I know?

I only fear at this point that 2008, which was supposed to be "The Year of The PS3", is transforming into "The year where the PS3 got its rear end handed to itself by the Xbox 360 on its home turf". Slightly disheartening to be honest.

I'd rather read about this here than elsewhere, where almost always you have to hear something from Aaron Greenberg just to get his "perspective" on things.

Who cares they still didn't pass a million, and with those numbers they wont for long long time if ever. i dont know why people act like 6000 is a great number.

Could be true, but I wouldn't be surprised to see LBP lift those number 10 fold (I think it has potential in Japan even though not all NA gamers will see the light).

It had an effect. The unit was selling around 3-4k before the price drop/RPG onslaught. I'd expect the 360 to continue to sell higher than that rate. It'll probably steady out around 5-6k.

Not that bad...the pent up demand will likely just show up when the bundles become available.

The new 80GB ships at the end of next week with LBP, so it shouldn't be a big problem...

It doesn't really make any sense for a consumer to buy a 40GB when, firstly you get a smaller HD, and to add insult to injury it ships with a SixAxis rather than DS3! In Japan it also comes with GT5:P!

What I wonder then, is why not slash the prices of the 40Gb to empty stocks ? Something like $50 or $75 less ?

I don't see why anyone cares anyway. If the PS3 sells 3 systems and the 360 sells 10,000 are you going to like the PS3 any less? Is the system going to loose it's ability to be a better system? NO...

It does suck that were getting shit games though.

Or I obviously don't play the SAME games as you. I hate sports, racing, FPS, and war games. Other than those the PS3 is pretty bare. There ARE a FEW RPGs out but not enough to matter.

LBP is coming out and it's far from bare. Well i will agree the RPGS are seriously lacking ( not a real concern for me, but for my friends) it's coming. Fallout 3 is around the corner and more to come

When you say shitty games , your talking about the quality of games and sorry, but the quality is there.

I don't mean shitty in terms of quality at all. I KNOW the PS3 is a monster system with amazing graphics and game play if you're into those games. I mean shitty in terms of fun for me to have... lol. I have LBP pre-bought... and i'm patient... so I'm not going anywhere. FF13 will be here soon enough...

But yeah, either way. To relate this to the OP. I could care less if I had the ONLY PS3 sold. I'd still think it to be a BETTER system.
