Firstly i am very sorry for this as i am sure that somewehere on the boards there will be an answer to this. I have looked and i'm just really confused now.
I am about to buy the Samsung BD-P1500 plauer http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...archtype=genre I bought my surround system a few years ago and I have just been looking on the back of it. I currenltly have it connected to my DVD player with Coaxial cable. It also has 'Aux L' and 'Aux R' next to this input. The 5.1 speakers are inputted with the multichannel setup, but they are the connections where the ends of the speaker cable clips into the input. I guess what i need to know is.... Can i get TrueHD sound through this system? I have looked at a few other threads on here related to this but i am hoping to buy the player this morning and need to know whether to pick up a new sound syestem whilst i am there ![]() ![]() |

On the hometheater reciever you have... do you have a (5.1 channel analog INPUT) If you look on the back of your reciever it should look like 6 RCA connections [labeled as ( left, center, right, surround left, surround right) and a subwoofer]Sometimes the ones I underlined are given a different name like ( rear left/rear right or back speakers. This also means that your subwoofer must have its own power supply (basically using its own powercord) and an rca audio jack to communicate to your reciever. Keep in mind I am not talking about the connection for the speaker wires this is a totaly different 5.1 connection. The next thing to look for is if the samsung bluray player has a 5.1 analog output. if it does then your good to go.

Well it seems the first basic thing is your audio system has SPDIF coaxial (bitstream) inputs for regular DolbyDigital (and maybe DTS 5.1 etc), (unless you meant you have your DVD connected by a Cable TV coaxial connection
![]() You can upgrade now or later, but if it's causing you a nervous breakdown I'd advice to take it easy ![]() UPDATE: The Playcom link says: HDMI Upscaling Region: 2 HDMI sockets: 1 Optical connection DVD +R playback, DVD -R playback, DVD +RW playback, DVD -RW playback Remote Control Blu-ray Our site's Player listing says: Connections: HDMI 1 HDMI version 1.3a HDMI audio output 5.1 DVI No Composite 1 Component 1 S-video 1 Optical 1 Analog 1 Analog audio output 2.0 Coaxial No Ethernet Yes USB 1 USB version 2.0 So it appears the player doesn't have a coaxial SPDIF connector, but a Toslink optical one, so you'd need an optical to coaxial adapter to use the coaxial input of a receiver, or use the analog stereo. I checked the website you went to and came across this... as being the best bluray player for what you might be looking for. It has the 5.1 analog output so you can upgrade later to reasonable priced reciever. The second link is for the reciever I would recommend later on when you decide to upgrade.

Wow, thanks a lot guys. That makes things A LOT clearer.
![]() Deciazulado, so if i bought that samsung players and kept my current reciever for the time being, i could play bluray with dolby and dts 5.1 if i got a optical-coaxial adapter? And would that go in the player or reciever? Thanks for those links, Zen. That reciever looks nice! |

The optical to coaxial converter is a little box (see pic in link) that has an optical input connector on one side and a coaxial output connector on the other side (there are also coaxial to optical converters that are the opposite). It also needs a power supply to go with it so make sure it comes with one or buy one (search the web for places that sell the converter for your area). It goes in beween your player and receiver:
Player optical out -----optical cable---->[optical to coaxial converter]---coaxial cable---->Receiver coaxial input I've used such a device once to connect a PS3's optical output to a 5.1 receiver that had only coaxial in. Then it should work just like the output of your DVD player. |

Your help has been great, guys.
Zen... following your tip... i went out and bought that Panasonic player!!!! It really is nice. I have watched a couple of SDs on it though, and i have it connected vix coaxial to my surround system and the audio shows up on the disc as Dolby 3.1. Why is it not picking up the 5.1? ![]() |
