Default Remember When...

...we used to have contests on here daily!?

remember the picture contests??

remember that one contest where I asked how many blu-rays it would take to get around the earth, to the moon, around the moon and back to earth??

this place used to be happening..giving away stuff and having fun all day long..

now threads are closed for stupid reasons and there is more policing here than at a prison riot..

this forum used to be freaking awesome..

/in before the lock down..

Damn mods closing UPS threads and DOW jones. Why have general chat at all? No room for healthy debate. People even close things before an argument starts! It's...like...MINORITY REPORT

Now that the website has an established base of support and a healthy level of page hits, I assume the owners are prepping it to be sold off soon. That is usually how these things operate, people just don't start these websites on a lark. As sites get bigger and more famous, a certain level of political correctness and conservatism sets in that removes the wilder elements.

It's a business decision more than anything else...

Not surprising the DJIA thread was deleted, though I'm disappointed I didn't get to see what happened in that one.

Oh well, I'm off to a juice bar...

very true, sadly.

the younger and less attention a site gets, the more the users can roam free and actually say what they want. the more eyes and members, the more strict and sucky sites usually become. err, not "sucky" but "restricted"... yeah, let's go with... restricted

I wasn't here when it was the Wild West, but I like what it is now. I've seen complaints about how fast a thread can close, but I look at that as the Lesser of Two Evils. If the Mods let things get carried away, it gets pretty nasty in a hurry. (that lunatic talking about The Passion Of The Christ) If WE were better at policing ourselves, they wouldn't have to step in. Right?
There are other a/v sites I've been to, but haven't for a very long time. I like it here a lot. There's some very cool people, some funny people and some helpful/knowledgable people. That's what I like.
I'm not saying it's wrong to want what you had before, I just like what I see now.

Yeah, unfortunately this site will go the same way as a lot of others, overly moderated, post's deleted. Just so they don't offend a small minority group, it is going that way now.
The Mods get carried away with their perceived power and just get carried away. Jokes that are taken the wrong way will be deleted, as well as funny remarks etc.

I doubt very much I will be visiting blu-ray.com in a few years time, it WILL be sold off, as soon as that happens, watch the multiple ads appear and take over.

I spend most of my time on OffTopic and G+.

There are very few reasons I come back here with the exception of a cool super mod, he knows who he is, and the site developer. Then there are a few cool people I like to keep contact with.

When jw was ousted I thought things would get better but they got worse.

I didnt' get the privledge of seeing the UPS thread, did you have a bad experience with them? I did!! They broke a very valuable item of mine, we had insurance on it, we filed a claim, and they denied it because they claimed the packaging was inadequate, it was wrapped with bubble wrap, newpaper and foam, in a form fitted case, within a wooden crate, when they delivered it, pieces of the wooden crate were busted off and the delivery guy just carried them in with him, he made the "note" that the packaging was damaged, but it did no good.....after fighting and fighting with them for over 6 months, we FINALLY got it resolved and they paid the claim.......they are a joke if you ask me.....ended up having the item repaired shipped back to me with FedEx......they broke it also.....ha.....but no problems, they paid the claim, then I drove to Texas to pick up my item the third time!!

They must have deleted that massive thread, because I can't seem to find it anymore. Too bad, as there were some quite amusing topics being discussed from time-to-time!

You know exactly what direction that was headed in, and I'm glad (for your sake) that you didn't see it

If people were just mindful of the basics:

No politics, race, sexual orientation, religion, etc.... everything would run smoothly. Then you have the people who say "what's so bad about this/that" Well, if we didn't have a no-tolerance policy on certain things, it would just spiral.... and if you think it's o.k. to talk about religion, then what about the person who wants to spew hate-filled racist/homophobic/sexist/etc. nonsense?

Our goal is to not alienate anyone, and be a more family friendly site. This site is already targeted as "unsuitable content" by sites who track those things, and that's a sign that we're not doing enough perhaps, so maybe just be thankful for the freedom we have here. Many sites don't allow "off-topic" at all, and it's a huge portion of this site now, with sports/humor/automotive etc. forums being created for those who would like them.

I think this site is far more forgiving than the few unsatisfied people who state their opinions loudest and most frequent make it out to be.
