Does anybody else think that WPT could possibly be fixed? Almost every time I turn to WPT on the Travel Channel, there's always at least 1 or 2 big names at their final table. Not all the time is it the more widely known names, but it's someone who at least has a name, and those are almost always are the ones who win them. The World Series of Poker tends to make their own "future stars", so to speak, and they almost never have a big star at any of their final tables. It almost seems like WPT feels like they have to have some kind of known faces at their final tables, or else people won't watch their programs. Like just right now, Gavin Smith was 6th in chips and was pretty close on his way out at the beginning of tonight's 2-hour telecast. Then somehow by the end of the show, he wins the whole thing. Pretty amazing when he can rarely ever get close to a final table in WSOP, but in WPT, he's there a lot. Either everyone else who plays in WPT is not very good, or WPT is fixed.

I stopped watching any poker shows after the first or second time and I saw that nitwit with the cowboy hat and sunglasses.
Personally, I think there should be a rule where you can see the guy's face in order to tell if he's bluffing. Unless they let me in and I'll show up wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and a robe that will remind people of the emperor in Star Wars. Logan |

The same people make it because they all tour these same tourneys every year. The reason why it's different for the WSOP is because there's so many people entering the tourney and so many randoms. It's like if you compare it to an all star NBA or NFL game. Usually the same people get chosen but sometimes some rookies make it in. Now if you were to allow everyone in the US to do a qualifier to try out for the NBA all star game I guarantee you that there will be more than just the NBA stars that make it. These games are in no way fixed. People get lucky. Anything can happen in poker and it usually does. I was at Hollywood park once and got pocket fours. I checks and 2 four's hit the flop. I checked it and some guy bet into me. I did the same thing on the turn checking and calling his raise but on the River I went all-in. He called and found out his full house was no good. Play poker long enough and you will get a better understanding. There's a difference to the way that amatuers and professionals play. it's a big difference and at tourney's like the Main Event at the WSOP you get people who will call with rags and take down the best hand but that's less likely in the WPT where alot of pros will be playing. |
