Default Strange voices coming from speaker

When all equipment off, what sounds like CB radio communication, voice is heard through right front speaker. Its short, airy, and doesn't happen often.

My equipment is in my sig. I want to know why this happens.

Sounds like radio interference. Do you have transmission towers nearby? Also check your neighbors for a ham radio antenna. Or your speaker may just be haunted.

You weren't by chance watching the Exorcist last night were you?

Actually Rob71 may have your answer. I had a friend in high school who lived less than 200 yards from a local radio station tower. He got major interference on all of his equipment. It was sort of spooky.

Yes I know it's radio interference, but I want to know the source.

Maybe you could hook a microphone to your system and try to talk back.

Dude you are hearing messages from beyond. Try to communicate with them then try to get from them the results of the next big lottery draw, then pm me those results please

Oh and don't you ever turn on your TV to an empty channel with statics or they might actually come through to our world, try to kidnap your daughter and be drawn to her cause they think she is the light they need to follow or something.

It could be Rush Limbaugh invading the airwaves trying to get into your head.

Interference in the cross-over?

I have it happen in my computer speakers. Blind stinking luck that a circuit is tuned to an active frequency, I think. But that has an amp in it, and hence has circuitry to be interfered with.

Something does need to be driving it. A normal speaker requires an amp to drive it. Where is the power to drive yours coming from if the amp is off?

Your speaker wires are picking up the signal. It's common, especially if someone has an illegal transmitter with higher power than they are supposed to.

The speaker wires themselves are a significant factor, too. Make sure they are not longer than they need to be. Also if they have any loops or bundles in their lengths, open them up, so it's all straight wire. If the wire is of questionable quality then consider getting some better wire.

You might also minimize the problem by putting ferrite core filters on your speaker wires (at both ends). Do a google search for them.

They look like this:

You can frequently find them in bundles on ebay for a cheap price.

You want to wrap the speaker wire through the ferrite filter as many times as you can while still being able to snap the filter shut.

by the way... if you are putting these filters on a cable that is too thick to loop it through more than once, you can simply put more of the filters on each end.

in my previous home theater setup (before HDMI/DVI), my analog video connection had a lot of noise patterns in it (yes I had a high quality noise-filtering surge-surpressor, and tried a different video cable). i put 3 of these filters on each end of the video cable that fed the video monitor and it minimized the problem. i'm not aware of transmitters in my area, but the setup was picking up something bad from somewhere (not something in my own home, to my knowledge).

I get the same problem out of one of my smaller practice amps for my guitar. It is a crappy old unshielded solid state amp and picks up on AM radio frequencies in my city. Quite amusing actually
