Default PlayStation Store downloads

Whenever I try to download a movie or demo on the PS store, it takes way too long to download. I just bought a movie a few days ago and it took over a day to download! I know it can't be my internet connection because my buddy uses the exact same internet service and the Wi Fi like me. Does anyone know what could be slowing down the download speeds so much?

WiFi is most likely the culprit. There are so many ways that other roadio frequency interference can affect your signal. Run a physical network cable from your router tho your PS3 if you can. Download speed in my house is also affected by what is going on with my other roommates computers as well. One roommate is a big bit torrenter and I just recently discovered that his downloads were maximizing network traffic. He had to scale back his software settings in order to keep from bogarting the signal strength.

What router do you have? What's the disparity between the download speed of your PS3 and your buddy's PS3?

This too, if someone is hogging the bandwidth (bit torrent, P2P, etc...) it'll slow down your download speed significantly. That said, my download speed still sucks.

It also depends if your playing a game or watching a movie. It will pause the download. I usally put on Folding@home and set it for auto shutoff for a few hours later. It won't pause the download while it's on.

go check your WiFi signal stregnth to the PS3 as well, you have a T1 at home and if your signal strength is below 10%, you might as well have dial up on ure PS3.

if that is the case, yuo could make a parabola out of paper and aluminum foil.
i had to.

my signal strength from router to PS3 jumped from 20% to 80% with the parabola on the router antenna.

I use WiFi for my computer and to San Jose I get about 8megabit per second, and to Tokyo I get about 1.2megabit/sec.

One problem could be that you are downloading a movie or something from Japan, while you do all your other work at a point closer on the net. I am sure the Sony in North America SHOULD be distributiong from their servers, and I have a feeling that if they do, their servers are incredibally slow.

Anyway, on my laptop with wireless it takes about 30 seconds to download ~30MB. On my PS3 (wired, no one else uses it) it takes about 3-5 minutes to download ~30MB from the PSN. It has taken a lot longer, but it is rare.

speedtest.com says I have a faster connection than 84% of users.

Yup, my download speeds on the PS3 have always sucked an egg. Lord only knows why - all of my computers using the same network are blazing fast.

I got the same speed for the PSN as for my Internet connection so I'm good on that side of things
