Default SMALLVILLE: The Movie?

This could have gone in the Smallville thread, but I think the possibility is cool enough to have it's own thread

Quote:
According to AICN, a hush-hush “Smallville” telefilm could be in the works – it’d follow the events of the show’s upcoming ninth-and-final season, and offer audiences a glimpse at something they were certain (because original said it’d never happen, since this show is supposed to be all about Clark Kent) they’d never see…. Tom Welling in the Superman suit.

An untried scooper (like how we’re not judging?) told the site that he’s gotten a hold of some signage being prepared for next months’ Comic Con.

Here’s what said scooper says :

On black, with crimson/red text in the same font lettering that Smallville uses, and a transparent grey Superman "S" watermark behind the text: METROPOLIS CHRISTMAS 2010 Then at the bottom is a banner advertising the Smallville presentation.

This could be nonsense… but if not, it could be a great send-off for “Smallville”. Wonder if Michael Rosenbaum will reprise his role as Lex Luthor for it?
What do you think, Smallville fans?

I read that yesterday on aicn.com, too. Really hope this is real! Bring back Lex!

If this turns out to be true, it would be a great end to Smallville. Of course, they would NEED to have Tom Welling in the suit & Michael Rosenbaum as Luthor.

I have to wonder, since I've never seen Tom Welling wear glasses like Clark Kent from the other Superman incarnations what is the point of the outfit? Lois, Lana, Jimmy Olsen, and Lex Luthor would recognize him as Clark when he was in costume.

Right off the bat, Lex would know who to go after to hurt Superman and expose his secret identity to Metropolis.

Maybe he'll wear the glasses as Superman in this incarnation. After all, they've taken many liberties with the material already.

Personally, I'll lose a lot of respect for one of my favourite television series if they actually put Welling in the suit. It has never been about, nor was ever intended to be about, nor SHOULD ever have anything about Superman included in ANY Smallville footage!

The last thing that we should see is Kal-El either enter into his "training" or just as he finishes his "training." Then, with one look of his face, we should know that he understands his destiny just before he takes flight WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF SUIT. [Fade To Black]

completely understand where you're coming from peter, but i think the point of this would be to mark the departure from smallville TO "metropolis" where he does become superman....i doubt they will show him in the suit in any Smallville episode, but who knows

It's Petra... not Peter.

All I'm saying is that, for me, the series will fall hard down my list of favourites if they sell out everything the show has stood for over the 9 seasons by showing Welling in the red and blue suit. Even if just for 3 seconds, it will destroy everything that the show has meant to accomplish. I really hope Tom sticks to his guns on this one.

gotya...well i honestly would be equally excited even if they just alluded to him wearing it without fully showing it...like having him hold it up or hold the cape or something...

Yeah, I think the best way to handle the ending of the show would be to not show him in the costume, but allude to it in a simple way, like holding up the cape before putting it on.

I was kind of worried though. When I read the thread title, I thought maybe they were gonna do a theatrical movie of the show and I was like "no... that's a bad idea, and it'd probably sour chances of seeing new Superman movie." But TV movie is a great idea (although couldn't it be a 2 part episode just as easily haha).

And really folks, this show isn't something completely separate from Superman. All along the point has been to show the man that he became that led him to be Superman. No, it's not about Superman, but it's about the journey to get there. You can't just think "oh well in this telling of the story, Clark never becomes Superman." He has to. That's the whole point of the show. Him becoming Superman. I'd rather the point of him donning the costume be after the credits roll on the last episode, but it HAS to happen.

I personally wouldn't mind if they show him in the suit. In the movie I mean. Yes, the whole point of the show was his life BEFORE the suit but it's only a natural progression. He does become Superman after all. There is no way around it. We all know how it ends. So to show him in the suit in the movie or in some sort of final episode would not go against that principal imo.

Now, if they made him wear it some time during the season or on repeated ocassions, that is another matter.

how do i feel?
F'k yea!

no seriously, it would be a great send off for the series definitely, if they wrote it well that is, maybe bring in some outside writers to help work on it. As long as it has a real movie feel, not a tv-movie feel.
and it needs to be EPIC!
no excuses about "we didn't have the budget for this or that"
they will probably have alot of cash to work with if they do this.

In bold: I think it would be cool if at the end he finally gets the suit but doesn't put it on. You see him looking at it then you start to hear the Superman music. Then the screen turns black.

Maybe in the movie he'll learn to fly. Oh wait? Can he fly yet?

I REALLY hope this is true; so they can see our support behind it and CW won't cancel the show before we get a solid ending to the series...
Movie or not, god I hope we get a solid ending before somthing happens

The way they keep cutting the budget they wont be able to afford the suit or even glasses. Mostly I watch the show to catch the glimpses of the Superman comic and other comic book heroes and villains that slips thru the endless teen angst. The big thing for me is the boy needs to fly before he gets typecast as Flash.
