Default Where's My Smallville???

Come on WB! An announced release of Season 5 Smallville on HD-DVD, but no corresponding announcement for Blu-ray? We have the BD50 discs now and the price of those seasons is high enough that it should justify the extra storage space!

I really hope that WB is focussing on really utilizing BD50 discs for extended content and isn't just holding some of its 'A' list titles off from Blu-ray to screw the format. Smallville was one of the reasons I really want a HD disc player, and if they are going to be neutral, then they really need to get their day & date HD-DVD/Blu-ray releases synced up. Heck, with all the HD-DVDs they have released first, it would be nice to see some Blu-ray Discs put out a couple of months before they release the same on HD-DVD.

Meh - not likely.

I agree 100%. WB needs to bring BD some more love. Where's Batman? Can't wait till the PS3 is finally released so the studios will be more active in releasing AAA content.

I love how Warner is "neutral" with a major HD-DVD bias. Don't get me wrong, I love that Warner is at least giving us most of the titles that are on HD-DVD, but come on now... Months and months of waiting before a title hits BD? So much for "neutral". I can understand that they might want to wait until the Java tools are in place to do the IME on BD, but when they are, (which they should be as Speed and LXG use BD-J) we should be caught up in no less than two months. The only day and date release we've shared so far was the Lake House, if I'm not mistaken, and we enjoyed about a two week lead on the Corpse Bride. From what I understand, the encodes are done, as they just convert the HD-DVD encode, so what takes so long? We need another release day like Sept. 26th when Warner brought us nine titles.

Come on Warner, show us some love over here! Give us a huge December.

Well, Warner has stated that all their High Definition releases will be available in both formats (unless Blu-ray flounders, but I don't think that's happening anytime soon). For example when they announced Forbidden Planet and Mutiny On The Bounty, the news included BDs at a "later date". So it'll be a matter of time. BD player numbers are going up, so the demand will go up. Right now 32% of my titles are Warners (the majority) so they are getting great BD business concerning me. Titles look good, they know people will buy them.

One thing to think about is that Smallville on BD-50 would take only 3 discs, not 5. Maybe that's too obvious a format advantage to show early on? If it were on BD-25, they would be 6 discs. So this factor may be affecting release time timetables. If the Disney "Lost" news are confirmed, wouldn't Warner pit a Smallville release as their TV series offering? Maybe Stargate CG-I (announced a looong time ago) will pop up then too!

I've watched a few Smallvilles in 720p. It looked close to a theatrical exhibition. the 1080p will twice better! . I've actually avoided watching it cus I knew it be released on 1080p High Definition. I don't want Season 5 as bad as I want Season 1!

All these catalog titles will even out eventually. As long as the new titles are released at the same time, I can relax. So can my wallet. There is no need for me to replace my entire DVD collection overnight.
