Hi i have a panasonic dmp bd 35 and have it connected to my tv only using hdmi! My player can decode dolby true hd and hd master audio. On the player i have a setting for bitstream and pcm as output. I want to hear the hd audio through my tv speakers but didnt know whether to bitstream it or use pcm. Evryone else seems to have the answer when using an amp. Please help

Thanks for your help, i understand that i wont benefit from the 7.1 hd audio and just want the best pssible sound using only my tv speakers.

There’s really no point in getting the lossless codecs using the TV speakers. You won’t be able to hear the difference. And no, the BD35 does not decode internally, it requires a receiver capable of decoding the TrueHD & DTSMA signal.
I’m curious – better picture with BD is only half the advantage. Hi-Def sound is the other half. Did you buy the BD player not intending to take advantage of the superior sound quality? |

I belive the player can decode internally. Having this set up in a bedroom means a surround sound can wait.

I stand corrected – it does indeed do internal decoding. I had to go with the BD55 though as it does the decoding & sends out the decoded signal via analog output. |

The bd 55 was my original choice but i wouldnt benefit from the 7.1 analog out so i chose the bd 35 as i use the tv speakers for sound but could buy an amp at a latter date and eventually have surround.

PCM still have to be processed by the hardware putting out the sound.... I have yet to see a tv that had PCM 2.0.... Or a TV that does it also for DD HD or DTS HD.... typically you will see tv that process some sort of forced surround sound....you will in fact need a receiver do have HD audio.... you can go with the sony 720 AVR that can process LPCM up to 7.1 and have your BD35 do the decoding, but i believe for just a little more cash you could get either the onkyo 606 or the sony 820, both would be better choices and can also decode the audio's if you wanted to bitstream them.

upon doing a little research if your tv is equiped with SRS TruSurround XT or S-Force Front Surround or some form of virtual surround sound, you will hear a virtual 5.1 sound coming from your 2 tv speakers in dolby digital. Sony Samsung Panasonic Toshiba and LG all have virtual surround sound from what I could find

HDMI connection or Red/White analog will provide the PCM 2.0
![]() ...what else do TV's use? ![]() some have an additional Dolby decoder, but for the most part...they will accept PCM. As for benefits using TV speakers? not much. ![]() Last edited by crackinhedz; 11-10-2008 at 12:18 AM. |
