80gb Motor storm ps3 fan always on. Is this normal?? - Blu-ray Forum

I have the Motor storm 80gig that I have almost had a yr. I am not sure if it has always done this, but have recently noticed that the fan is always running. As long as the power is on to the ps3, even if not turned on the fan runs. It is not loud just at the low speed, but cool air is continually coming out. Does anyone else do this?? I know it runs louder anyways when playing (i only notice it when volume is off). Should I try to vacuum out the vents or use a can of air?? Thanks for any help

Remote Start for PSP Remote Play requires the PS3 to run in low power mode with the fan at minimum speed.

Turn it off if you don't use it or you're not planning to connect remotely.

thanks. I will have to do that. I have not done remote play since the beginning of aug. Heck my psp has not been used since then. will have to turn it off

I have a launch 60gig and a Metal Gear Solid 80Gig and I can say the 80gig is noticeably louder than the 60 gig. It's a completely unscientific diagnosis but it seems to me like the 80gig has a cheaper, crappier fan in it.

Man I have to say I'm seeing the exact thing right now with my 60 and 80 ps3's , my 60 runs like a champ , but lately my 80 is louder and the disk drive seems to be making more noise, at least the 80 has a year and a half warrenty left on it. I had a friend whos 80 crapped out on him less than a year after he bought it too, but fortionatly for him (because I brought it to his attention) his warrenty was still good for a month or so, so he got it fixed for free. If only they still sold the glorious 60gb units

i have a 80gb ps3,gave it to my 6 year old son when i got my 160gb bundle pack.I could tell you that the 80gb is loud not to loud though,but the 160gb runs quiet as a mouse never even know its on,played about 10hours on it so far, every ps3 has some degree of noise in my opinion.......but they all

I was asking about the ps3 always having the fan on low even when off. As pointed out above it is due apperently to remote play. I only noticed it was on when being near the unit.

As far as the 80gig the new mgs4 one runs alot quiter then my motor storm one. I honestly don't care about the noise. I have 50" panny viera and only hear the noise sometimes when the volume is muted. Maybe because I sit far enough a away.

I play a few games but not for long periods of time, 1 to 2 hrs max and have yet to even hear a fan kick in.

thats the one i have...

only time my fan kicked on was when having in on for a few hrs during the summer...

turned on the ac... and it kicked off...

i have a 80gb mgs4 ps3...my wifes brother has a motorstorm 80 gb one

I can actually hear different speeds of the fan on his but on mine we both talked about it and you cant even hear a fan on mine... And we both agreed that his xbox 360 sounded like a airplane about to take off lol...

But never heard him have a fan that didnt shut off thats weird...mine also doesnt do that.
