What are his viewing conditions? Is he willing to get a plasma. Any other criterion?

To be honest, for the money, I cannot justify anyone spending that much money on that TV. It was good, but I don't feel it was as good as the best plasmas. If he doesn't game and wants the best picture, I think we are at the point where it is better to have standalone BD players. In the low $2000 range, he can have a 50 panasonic plasma that is THX certified. The model number is TH-50PZ800U.

tell him to go to a tweeter.com location (actual store) if they have one in his area, and have him look into a Pioneer Plasma.

if they dont have one in his area, look online for a Pioneer 5020. Might find one for a good price.

Other than a Pioneer plasma, perhaps a Panasonic PZ800U/850U

Your friend can get a top-notch HDTV and a PS3 for less than $2000 with special financing to save some bucks. With the extra $1000, they can give it to me (give to the poor)

J/K. Your friend can buy a receiver and some speakers along with a couple blu-rays

If he wants a good LED LCD than he should get the ln46a950- it is in his price range.
