Default BI-amping

If i understand correctly bi-amping allows you to use your rear surround channels amp in 5.1 a system for your front speakers? do any of you have your system hooked up that way, and if you do how does it sound? is it a noticeble improvement?

I plan on trying that on my system.

Not necessarily set up how you describe, but yes, bi-amping is the act of using two (or more) channels of amplification per speaker.

As to how noticable the effect is, I would think it depends on what the rest of your system is, and how well it was set up. If your gear and/or set up is questionable, I'd say fix that first.

That said, if your amp has the facility to bi-amp, there's certainly no harm in trying. Let us know how you get on!

I only have 1 pair of input terminals on my speakers, it looks like i cant do it.
though i think i can still hook it up to my sub accourding to my speaker manual. is that the same thing, or something different?

The speaker terminals on your sub allow it to take full range sound coming from the speaker terminals on your receiver, and convert them to LFE. You are much better off having the sub connected to the receiver the way you have it now, through an RCA cable connected to the "Sub Out" on your receiver.

1. you need to have two pairs of terminals in order to bi-amp
2. you're reciever should indicate if its capable of doing so. most of the 7.1 systems allow such, but im not certain about 5.1 unless you have a pair of speaker terminals for a zone 2 setup.

better yet, heres a thread i posted a while back, that might influence you into either doing so or not.

biamping material

Thanks guys

So why isn't it a good idea? the speaker manual says it would give me better dynamic rage and i will be able to play my system louder.

As for bi-amping yea my speakers are not made for it( does't have 2 terminals) i guess i'll try when i get some new floorstanding speakers.
