Default Question about The Fifth Element

I've read that the first release of The Fifth Element on Blu-ray was terrible but that the second one was great. I don't want to goof up and get the wrong one. Is the latest remastered version clearly marked?

No its not clearly marked, but you can tell which one is which by the remastered one's 'Experience High Definition' is in shiny chrome on the bottom of the case. Unfortunately the case technically doesn't state its remastered.

Good news is that there aren't any retailers that sell them anymore and you would just have to be careful buying it from someone on Ebay.

Check the audio specs on the remaster you get PCM and Dolby Tru HD on the original you only had PCM and DD

That's a minor difference in the front indeed, but it's hard to notice.

The back will give you the clue. The remastered version has the "Full HD 1080" and "Dolby True HD" in the back, bottom, left hand, along with some other minor differences.

But as someone has stated, it would be very hard to get the "old" version through retailers.

Either way, when you do find it (you can probably get it fairly inexpensively these days), buy it.

This movie is so awesome and they really did a good job on the blu.

The newer one's TrueHD is an easy way to spot it.

I just picked this blu up a few weeks ago and I noticed that the sticker along the top edge of the case read "The Fifth Element Re". I was in Best Buy and I noticed that one of the 2 copies they had said "Re" and one didn't. I think that there are still a few copies of the old version floating around in stores.

Did you see what their audio was to verify that it wasn't just a labeling issue?

I didn't know about the difference in audio labeling at the time but the disc was factory sealed and the stickers were marked diferently. I also checked at Target and all of their copies had the "Re" in the title.

When I got my copy over a year ago, there was one copy at Target with "Re", and 2 or 3 without. The new/remastered one is "Re", the one I took. (I feel for those who ended up with the ones without "Re". Wonder if they even know...)

Picked up a copy last night at Walmart. I spent a little time comparing the upconverted dvd image and the blu-ray image by switching from one input to another . First time I have ever done that.

Glad to finally own one of my alltime favorites!

I love The Fifth Element. The special effects, action and story are quite captivating. Chris Tucker is a riot. The remastered version I have offers excellent PQ and AQ.

I really hope they make a sequel: The Sixth Element.
