Alot of people are saying there is a peoblem with the New Line Titles, I was watching 'run fatboy, run' earlier, and although it has 7.1 its not really worth it - no big action scenes, but PS3 and onkyo decode the 7.1 fine.

I have Onkyo 705 and PS3 and the New Line movies show correct on PS3 display but the Onkyo plays it at 5.1. The other studios work just fine.

If this is true, Sony better fix it soon. A lot of ppl will not be happy about this.

Everyone complained that they wanted it now... Sony rushed it and got it 95-8% right.... now everyone will complain about the 7.1 discs that don't work... joy

I don't think they "rushed" it, or we would have had an inferior one months ago. I think it is more of an oversight.
Either way, most people do not have a 7.1 setup and will not care. As for me, I can live with the 5.1 for now, but will eagerly await the patch to fix this.
We better make sure Sony knows about this problem right away so we can get a fix sooner.

HERE HERE. You said it far better than I would have. I should have used the phrase "were pressured" in my previous post... either way you hit the nail on the head!

I emailed Sony. Those of us who have 7.1 want 7.1, so it is important to us.

Yea, I just checked and I have the problem w/ New Line titles. The PS3 displays DTS MA 7.1, but the receiver only shows 5.1 input. I put in Oldboy, which is DTS MA 7.1, from Tartan films, and both my PS3 and rcvr showed 7.1. 3:10 To Yuma, w/ 7.1 PCM, also shows 7.1 on both, so it's an issue w/ NL. Also, the NL splash screen music is in DTS-HD MA, and shows on both PS3 and rcvr as 7.1, which is odd.

they'll have a 2.31 update in a week or so......they better anyway I'm not worried at all. Sony wont turn away from the issue, especially now that they have finally implemented DTS-HDMA. (e-mail on its way)

New line encode use Surround Back as 7.1 and not real 7.1 like the other. It was like this on my DENON3808ci bitstreamed too.. only 5.1 light up on the receiver but they was sound coming in 7.1. The display was corrected..

Maybe the PS3 decode the SB 7.1 but don't send it?

Sounds to me like the problem is with New Line, not Sony. Can anyone confirm those titles output a true 7.1 on other setups?

The Newline titles output correctly using Onkyo 905 and samsung 1400 Blu-ray player. I have played them, and it shows 7.1 Now when I try to play them using my same Onkyo 905 and the PS3 it shows only 5.1 on the Onkyo. So I know its not the Newline disc its the PS3.
