Default Prison Break About to be Cancelled

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...44c69c15574339

'Prison' break may be on the way
Speculation surrounds two additional episodes

By Nellie Andreeva
The end could be near for "Prison Break."

The actors on the Fox drama have been notified by 20th TV that the filming schedule might be extended to accommodate production of two additional episodes.

"Prison" writers are yet to pitch ideas about the extra hours, but speculation is that they might serve as a conclusion to the four-year series.

If the two episodes are made, their fate is unclear as the network has not committed yet to air them, though conversations with the studio are under way.

Fox might run the bonus material as two additional episodes in the spring, though that is considered unlikely because "Prison" has struggled in the ratings this fall and the remaining six episodes of its original 22-show order weren't on the network's recently released midseason schedule.

A more plausible scenario has Fox airing the two episodes as a two-hour "event" next season, not unlike the "24" prequel this fall. Or the episodes might end up on the "Prison Break" DVD.

Very interesting! I was a big fan of the first season, the second one was okay, but now I am growing tired of the show and am content to wait for the blu-ray seasons (I stopped watching aired episodes or episodes online). I would welcome an end to it, especially if it was written well.

Thumbs up

I'm a huge Prison Break fan, but this sounds like great news to me. The very nature of the show demands that the story come to an end. It's not a perpetually ongoing concept. And the fact that FOX is giving them a 2-part series finale on top of the regular season order is a great way to give the show a definitive ending that won't leave the fans hanging. I'm actually excited to read this. I was concerned the show would eventually be dropped with no payoff.

NOOOO!!!! This is BS! What are they going to cancel next, Lost?

I hope they change their minds. They said it was going to go up until season 5, why did they change their mind?

Ratings are really low and the storyline has become so farfetched when you think about how they began in season 1 and where they are now...I'll still watch it until the end though

I don't know about the ratings but the reviews at IGN have been good. I knew it was coming to an end because they're close to the sixth Scylla card but I just didn't expect it to be over this soon.

Good because they broke out in the first season, why bother with more?

The 1st season was interesting in it's concept and execution but they've long since jumped the shark.

Weird...it seemed pretty clear that this was the final season of Prison Break anyway. Maybe I misunderstand the article. Have they finished filming all the Season 4 episodes? Or are they only halfway through and originally scheduled to be on a mid-season hiatus soon? If Season 4 is completely in the can, an extra two hours seems like a fairly nice way to let them tie up the series. If they're only at the midway point and are now forced to squeeze 11 episodes into a 2-hour finale, then I'd have to say it really sucks.

I didn't catch much of Seasons 2 or 3 but I've been enjoying 4, regardless of how implausible it all seems. It's good, goofy fun if you don't think about it too hard.

Because there was a lot more to the story than just a prison break out. Season 2 was about the police and FBI manhunt for the escaped convicts, which is a natural and necessary continuation of the story. Now the show is about the characters trying to take down the people who framed one of the main characters and started the whole premise of the show. It's all connected and flows from the initial setup from season 1. Who cares if the show is called "Prison Break"? It's just a title. The show has always been about a group of people getting caught up in a huge conspiracy,

BTW, I'm not saying anyone has to like the show. Hate away if you like. I just never understood why people obsess about the show's title.

True, plus, I liked the storyline of having them thrown into a creepy, third-world prison for several episodes, at least that must have appeased some of the title-obsessers for awhile...

I really can't say I'm suprised. I LOVE Prison Break, it has been one of the most enjoyable TV shows for me over the past few years, but I found that I stopped watching it this year and decided to wait for the DVD release. Still not a bad run for what was to be a half season one shot filler.

Who knows? They've only done it twice. The overall plot of the show is about a group of people who get caught up in a massive government conspiracy and have to fight for their freedom and lives. It's overblown, highly contrived, and fun as can be.

I remember reading somewhere awhile back that the show was originally intended to be only 2 seasons long (the creator's idea). The first being the escape, and the second being on the run. I believe that since the ratings were good Fox decided to keep it going. I still enjoy it but I think it could have ended after season 2.

I agree with this. I would have been satisfied if they ended it after season 2. But if they had to continue it, having the characters seek revenge against the people who destroyed their lives was the logical direction to go.

Plus, William Fichtner is the man!
