But, from everything we know, it's a hardware problem and cannot be fixed via firmware update. |

Let's see, a system that has many components with multiple functions or my receiver which is a Pioneer Elite receiver that is meant to decode audio and nothing else. I am going to go with my receiver having better DACs.

Again not really factual, but all opinon.. and how hard is it to really decode defined audio codecs?
I would bet you are anyone else to put a blindfold on and tell the difference between in sounds between a movie playing on PS3 and any other blu-ray player using the reciever to decode. It's all digital defined codecs and it will sound the same.. this is not about quality it is about seeing and showing off the codec being displayed on a reciever.. that is it. |

Well then I stand corrected. Technically though, if you think of it this way, my receiver does have better DACs because the PS3 has none. LoL. It would be nice to see the codecs displayed on my receiver. Not a big deal though since I usually turn off the display when watching a movie.

According to previous posts about this, its something to do with the HDMI output on the PS3 not being able to support bitstreaming of HD codecs. Meaning the PS3 will need an upgrade in a future release of the PS3 hardware. Its probably going to happen as its not really an expensive upgrade. Besides, a very few amount of people actually use HD codecs. I would say less than 3% of the PS3 consumer base use it, its just that 3% moan and moan alot on here so it seems like a lot of people.
