You have a nice sound system. However the V663, PS3, and Insignia BD player are all entry level components. They are good stuff, don't get me wrong. So in your case, I would say that it won't make any difference. In the case of the PS3 it does the decoding and sends PCM via HDMI to the V663. Lots of folks are extremely happy with the PS3 decoding HD audio. I don't know too much about the Insignia. But as long as it doesn't crap up during the handshakes between it and the V663, you should be fine bitstreaming HD audio over HDMI. Just be sure that between the Insignia player and the V663 that you use an HDMI 1.3a cable. I think you'll be fine either way.

You got two HDMI inputs on the V663. Why not hook up both players and A-B them yourself?

PS3 cannot bitstream HD audio to a receiver. It can only convert it to PCM and send it to the receiver. It does a very good job and you don't have to worry. PS3 can bitstream the lossy Dolby Digital and DTS Surround.

If the Insignia player can bitstream HD audio, you probably won't be able to tell the difference.
Read A Guide to Home Theater Audio Codecs. Scroll down toward the end. There are a couple of sections on bitstreaming and its disadvantages.

I think the OP knows that the PS3 doesn't bitstream DD THD and DTS-HD MA. Basically, he's asking which is better: letting the player do the decoding or the AVR.

I do think you answered his question though in the link you provided. BTW, nice job writing that article. You're right, I don't think he could tell the difference either.
