Question Is TX-SR606 right for me ?

I'm about to order TX-SR606 but I want to double check if it will b enough. I have panny plasma and ps3 and just received polk audio rm6750s. It will b my frist home theater so I'm happy anyways What I mainly want the receiver for is blu-rays and ps3 games. Now when I get confused is 606 is 1080i only. So I don't know the difference in sound and picture.

1. What's the difference between 1080i and 1080p receiver
2. Should I spend $200 more on Onkyo 706 to get 1080p
3. Will 606 give me worse quality picture that what ps3 sent to plasma through hdmi ?

It will pass through 1080p, but it will only upconvert to 1080i. The picture for the PS3 will be the same regardless what receiver you put it through. Hope this helps.

Sorry, should have put this in there. If you are using HDMI, it will pass it through as 1080p, but if you are upconverting either rca, s-video, or component it will only upconvert it to 1080p.

Whoa, what I understand is that It will just pass the signal through. And the 1080i is upconverting only, right ? So if i'm getting 480something or 760something signal then it will upconvert it to 1080i.
So it doesn't really matter to me what I get as long as the source of video outputs 1080p.
Hope I got this right

If you put any signal in there via HDMI, it will only pass it through. If you use another source such as RCA, S-video, or component, you have the choice to either let it pass through, or you can upconvert it.

There is a reason why the 606 is one of the best selling av receivers, it is pretty versatile and packs a good punch for the price. Good Luck.

I was looking at the same reciever, however, I was pushed to go with the new Denon 1909 in August. I tried the yamma 663 and the settings were confusing to me. Had to switch to the Denon

the 606 would be a good receiver, have gone and listened to it? that is also a way to determine what receiver you like the best. see what your ears like the best. if you are concerned with the 1080i and 1080p you could look at the yammy 663, pioneer 1018 and the sony 920. all 3 would be excellent choices too.
