Question echochrome – Trophies, Screenshot Capture and User-Created Levels Added

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
Developer: Japan Studio
Platform: Exclusive to PLAYSTATION®3 and PlayStation®Portable
Genre: Puzzle
Players: Single-Player
Rating: “E” for Everybody

Released on the PLAYSTATION Store:

Asia - OUT NOW | North America - OUT NOW | Europe - July 3rd 2008

Featuring elegantly designed black and white drawings, echochrome™ is a puzzle game for PS3 and PSP available via download on the PLAYSTATION®Store. Each version of echochrome features 56 exclusive levels -- totaling over 100 levels across both versions -- with each unique level designed specifically to match that platform's characteristics. Gamers are challenged to play within five simple laws of perspective that govern how one advances through each stage. Offering the most gameplay with the least graphics, echochrome is likened to playing a M.C. Escher drawing on PlayStation®. The player controls an infinite canvas, guiding a mannequin figure by carefully controlling the perspective, tilting and turning the level to create a continual pathway for the character to walk safely through the design. The goal of each level is to reach all of the echos, or shadow guides, as quickly as possible.

There is no set pathway for any level in echochrome. Players will find different and limitless ways to advance through each stage. Additionally, players are able to create their own unique levels using Canvas Mode, and share them with their friends. The PS3 version will allow players to upload their favorite custom levels to the developer, and the developer will pick the best of the best to distribute to all online players of the PS3 game via a free download.

A simple and highly addictive puzzle game, echochrome will change your perspective.

THE 5 PERSPECTIVE LAWS
  1. Perspective traveling - By manipulating the viewpoint, the player can connect two pathways that are apart and the character will travel across as if the routes are connected.
  2. Perspective landing - The character will fall down a hole and land on whatever appears beneath it.
  3. Perspective jump - The character will jump if it walks over a jumping platform. Once it begins its descent, it will land on whatever appears underneath it.
  4. Perspective absence - By hiding jumping platforms or holes, they cease to exist.
  5. Perspective existence - If a gap in a pathway is blocked, the character will walk over it as if the pathway is connected.

Lol then by all means go play connect the Dots this game looks great something genuinely new and intriguing I hope more games like this and Little Big Planet come out. Something that is really innovative and not just waving my controller around.

Oh yeah, this is going to be for PS3 and PSP but I don't know if the PSP version will come on a UMD or be a download played from memory stick.

Phil Harrison said it would be on UMD for the PSP and a PSN download for the PS3.

This may be a great game to play. The reason is simple. The graphics on a 2D view doesn't make sense. Moving it on a 3D view KINDA makes sense. So to have a 3D-based game that is viewed 2D is going to tax your brain and can be insanely addictive. Another download game SOLD!

I do wonder how the programmers code this thing.

I don't think anyone would pay 600 dollars for a game. or 499 for that matter!

Phil H. says in a GameTrailers interview that you'll be able to create your own content in echochrome too! At least level creation I presume.. probably with online sharing!

echochrome should have something a little like this, more refined through probably. For example graphically echochrome automatically removes the block outlines where they're not needed to give perspective.
