OK we have, (with the latest firmware 2.50) is added the ability to capture images of our favorite games. The thread opened for this purpose: here we can discuss the games that support!
Also here you can post photos captured from the games and demonstrate your creativity, your inspiration, and you can see that that most other escapes.

Resistance supports this, on multiplayer mode...

WipeoutHD has a screencapture tool as well. Not part of the update, but it is indeed there, for thos who want to start early.

That was my first thought, but didn't want to post anything about it that so I could count to see how many pictures it took for the first one to pop up.

the resistance mp screen-cap feature was not a result of the firmware update, as it has been available for a long time. if there is a sudden surge in resistance pics, it is pure coincidence...or inspiration.

Lets hope that Warhawk has this planned in a future update. I want to show the people how many people I can get with my TOW missile.

How exactly does the screen capture work? Do you have to go to the XMB and pick something, or is it mapped to a certain combination of buttons?

It'd be nice/easier if pressing a certain combination of buttons automatically took the picture.

As far as we know and according to SCEA there are no released games supporting this (new system-wide standard for) screenshot capture.

Connect a usb keyboard to your ps3, the Print Screen button on the standard keyboard takes a picture I think there is another method using a second controller but im not familiar with it.

This method works with resistance while playing multiplayer not single player.

NBA Live 09 has it

its much like Wipeout's but u can also upload it directly to easports.com website.

ill see bout posting one later today.
