Another Square RPG Flops on the 360

Here's the latest review for Square's much anticipated The Last Remnant:

In the end they gave it 6/10 citing long loading times, various technical issues and uneven pacing. It's kind of sad since it's also coming to the PS3 as well albeit at a latter date. Hopefully they would have ironed out some of the problems by then.

To put things in perspective this is the second Square RPG on the 360 that's received lukewarm reviews - the first being Infinite Undiscovery. Maybe Square ought to have remained exclusive to Sony instead

So I guess for now it's back to Valkyria Chronicles...

Hopefully they stop this timed exclusivity before it drives SE into the ground.

Yep I was disappointed when I saw the ratings this game received. Even Gamespot gave it a bad note: 6.5/10

That's what I was thinking, are they allowed to optimize it for the PS3, or do they have to basicly leave it alone other then minor fixes?

Maybe they should just TRY HARDER. Just because a game is available for the 360 doesn't mean that it's going to suck. Look at Fallout 3, runs much better on the 360.

Some games end up running better on the PS3 when they try. Look at Mirror's Edge, that game is beautiful on the PS3. I don't like the 360 version though. Also Dead Space and Bioshock, both run and look better on the PS3.

Square is just trying to churn out too many RPGs in too small a time frame.

How did it sell on the 360? I would say a flop is something that didn't sell, not a low rating. Crap could be a better term for a rating like that.

About 70k I think in Japan last week, the title had quite a bit of hype.
Now it'll probably die off quickly and they'll do lesss than they could have done on PS3 with an exclu or simul release.

Not too bad for a 360 title, but for a S-E title, it's pretty sad I think.

On PS3, a JRPG like that would have done largely above 100k, mediocre or not.

About 150k shipped. On PS3 this title would have broken 400k shipped, easily but S-E being stupid and short sighted took the cash from MS.

The game itself hasn't got great reaction from Japan, a few 2ch threads on it but not much else...

I think it's just disappointing for SE and their fans. I mean they've been known to produce some stunning games over the years but so far in the current gen systems something's just not right...

I just hope that the current lack of quality isn't down to pushy microsoft overlords wanting to boost 360 sales in Japan by forcing down unrealistic deadlines on SE.

I think the telling point will be sales on the PS3 versus Xbox. I hope they look long and hard at the sales comparisons between the two.

It's a good indicator only if they don't touch the code at all. If they make the game better with the extra time they have to polish it then the sales comparison is gone.
