Angry My entire dvd collection was destroyed!

I have a large DVD collection amassed over many years. I have a Mits HD1000U projector in my home theatre and have always thought it looked great with my DVD's...

UNTIL

My PAN BD35 BLU-RAY player arrived three weeks ago. My new Blu-ray collection (now up to 10) has destroyed all enjoyment of my DVD collection!

Now when I spin up a DVD in my home theater, the quality just looks like crap to me! Grain, artifacts, lack of detail. I can't stand to watch them. How did I suffer with such poor quality for the past two years!?

Long live blu-ray!

Anybody want to buy a few hundred DVD's for cheap?

Default You are so correct

I too have the same issue. I have a mitsu hc6000 and a panny blu ray. I project onto a 120 inch screen. I can no longer watch any dvds not on blu ray. I hate being that way and my wife calls me an hd snob, but what are you going to do. Just hope some of the best releases, like Gladiator, get released on blu.

HAHA, I was expecting to read about a house fire or something like that. I personally would only sell the ones I replaced on Blu-ray

You'll see far more grain with Bluray than Dvd. Not that theres anything wrong with that.

He probably meant digital noise, not grain. Most people really don't understand what grain is. When they see "mosquito noise" on DVDs they assume it's grainy, when they mean noisy.

How large of a collection is "large" ?? I'd consider buying some for a reasonable price.

Have you tried watching your dvd's on a decent upscaler? If you truly have a nice dvd collection, look into it. Some of the standalone upscalers, like the Oppo, do a better job than combo blu/upscalers.

I love blu too, just sayin if you have some classic dvd's don't throw them out because many of them may never be released on blu.

Haha I hold on to most of my DVDs, which have now been placed on time-out in a closed cabinet in another room. I sell them when I replace one with a Blu but if I watch a regular DVD, I find myself blinking a lot to try to get things to focus better.

welcome to the club, before I saw my first BD I thought I would able to keep most of my DVDs and just re-buy some of the more critical old movies (obviously new ones would be on BD). But at this point I have come to the realization it means re-buying anything I might want to watch again.
