Default Which Blu Ray with Bose Lifestyle??

Hello All
I am ready to get into blu ray but I have no clue where to start...my main question is which blu would work best with bose lifestyle system and a panasonic th40px60u...I think I have one HDMI slot in the back of the monitor and not sure on the bose....heck, I don't even know where to plug the blu ray into but I've read some of your comments and will take your suggestions (except the bose bashing ...already own it

Considering you are not going to be able to get HD audio considering you have the Bose Lifestyle, you should be looking for a relatively inexpensive player unless you want to update your sound system or get a new receiver. I would be looking at the Sony BDPS350, Panasonic DMP10 series or whatever it is called. Just make sure that it is 2.0 ready so updates are easier.

I'm not sure what you mean by "no HD audio"...I thought the bose played at 5.1?

5.1 does not mean that it is HD sound. HD sound indicates a codec of LPCM, Dolby TrueHD, or DTS-HDMA. The bose lifestyle system, if you are running with a Bose unit, can only play Dolby Digital, which is lossless.

Thanks BACsader,

"lossless"? is that a technical term or an opinion?

Technical. Your system, even if it has HDMI, is not capable of receiver audo through HDMI. You would need an optical cable for audio, which is only capable of lossy DTS and Dolby Digital.

Actually Dolby digital is lossy sound lossless refers to the hidef codecs mentioned above that compress the sound with out any loss to the original recording.Dolby digital is compressed audio that is not bit for bit identical to original and was used for past formats to compress audio because of lack of disc space.Lpcm or linear pulse code modulation is not and does not need to be lossless because it is already uncompressed. If all this is not clear you can try using the search function on the top right hand corner and you will find a wealth of info on this subject its how I started out.Good Luck!!

you would need an optical cable for audio.

as for Bluray players? just about any of them would be fine.

but I would look at a Sony S350/S550, Panasonic BD35/55, or a PS3. Probably the most reliable players.

Since my tv is 1080i and not 'P' does any of the blu-rays upscale to "i" or does this not matter?

well, I could not find a 40px60, so I think you mean 42px60u which looks like it has two HDMI inputs. The BOSE system I believe has none. So you would connect an HDMI cable directly to the TV for video, and use an optical cable for audio.

In the long run, it might benefit you to invest in an HDMI receiver as not only would you get the better audio, but you will also have more HDMI inputs.

all bluray players can output in 720p, or 1080i if needed.

your screen is 1024 x 768, which you would only need to set at 720p. (preferred)

screen 1366 x 768, so 720p is preferred also.

Is it possible to return your Bose system? How about selling it? If you can, try to get a refund so we can get you real HD surround sound and have a more enjoyable experience.

Not to bash your decision but why did you choose Bose out of curiosity.
