Default SOCOM: Confrontation Vs. CoD: World at War

Hey people, so I had CoD: World at War preordered. As soon as reviews started filtering through however, I decided to cancel it. Wise choice? Obviously it's the exact same game as Modern Warfare, however I was hoping the rifles and sniper rifles would behave differently and more old school... But apparently the bolt action is exactly the same as Modern Warfare.

So my question, if I want solid tactical military shooter... is it worth going for SOCOM? I never played it on the PS2, and since there's no demo... I have no idea what to expect. Any word from people that have been playing? Have the patches sorted out all the server issues?

The sniper rifles are most definately NOT the same as Moder Warfare. First, you need to unlock all the scopes with the exception of the Springfield. Next, you have to make alot of trade offs. Do you want to use the rifle grenade or do you want the scope?

All of the rifles behave very differently. I would say the ONLY similarities are that the M1A1 behaves like the M14 and the MP40 behaves like a MP5. But those similarities are not huge. Reloading take alot of time now. You need to be accurate and take cover always. Your clips are smaller than in MW and this will probably be the first time I use the Sleight of Hand perk.

Socom is for diehard fans mostly. It's love or hate with that game. I don't like it but my coworker loves it to death and so do his buddies. It's very slow paced too.

Damn, now I regret cancelling the preorder. Modern Warfare really got on my nerves sometimes though, the martyrdom perk is the most annoying hemorrhoid worthy addition to any game ever . I think I'll rent CoD and see wussup... And once I hear something about SOCOM, i'm gona buy it. Hell, if not just for the headset.

I just need something to hold my attention till Jan Feb... LOTR and Killzone have me sold.

To me, Socom is alot of fun, for say an hour or a few at most ... (in one sitting) where as CODW@W I can play for hours on end. Socom just is the same ol stuff to me, as far as what you can use.

Both good games tho... just get both .. get W@W with what you were debating and grab Socom on the cheap ... its easily found, check amazon sellers, half.com and ebay ... you can get it for 20-30 bucks easily.

I'd say, go with World at War. I've heard bad things about Confrontation which haven't been solved since the beta (you should know, I was in it), and it seems like Treyarch have forgiven us after CoD 3. So I'd say go with CoD.

COD games are run-and-gun shooters (whether people admit it or not)
SOCOM is definitely more tactical.

-COD5 does have a single player mode, as well as better graphics.
-But for the same price, SOCOM includes the official PS3 headset (which is really good quality)

Your choice.

Yeah. I'm gona go for SOCOM. The only reason I considered it was because I was about to buy the headset by itself, but what's the harm in seeing what another $20 adds. Worst case, I can trade it in for $12-$16.

I think playing with the right people, SOCOM could be excellent. Apparently most of the launch-time issues have been fixed with v1.2. And v1.3 is in the pipe. Again, I'm gonna rent WaW first, still not convinced that it's drastically different/better than Modern Warfare.

I haven't played SoCom but imho COD W@W is a major dissapointment. Do not get it, graphics are horrid with a vast amount of imperfections, reminds me of a PS2 game.

socom has the potential to blow Cod out of the water. But I have to admit because socom never seems to work for me and Im tired of waiting for updates for a game that doesnt even have a single player mode to hold me over Id have to go with Cod even though I agree with Entertainment72 about the graphics being horrible I can still play online with friends with no problems

I hate Last Stand more. Maybe because it's unlocked earlier on, so I think of it as a beginner's perk.

I never played Socom before and picked it up. I also got COD: WAW and to me it is much easier to jump into a game than it is in Socom. It takes too long to jump through all the screens, then you can't join a match in progress. I can play 3 TDM's in COD to Socom's one.

I really want to like it, it just isn't thought out and easy to jump in to.

I put it this way:

CoD was made for everyone.
Socom was made for a specific community of players.

Must agree with earlier post.

COD4 and COD5 are easier to play, but more run and gun and less realistic.

Socom is harder to play, requires teamwork and tactics.. and is way more realistic, at least in gameplay.

Socom = real tactical shooter.

It's not a run n gun type of game and those who have patience, precision and teamwork abilities will prevail.

I played Socom with a guy who "owned" people in CoD. It was fun watching him die quick and not get a single kill over and over.

Actual experience: I play Socom: Confrontation almost daily (about 25 hours a week since release).

In CoD, Warhawk, etc you can pretty much solo it to an extent. In Socom, you really can't (sometimes, but most of the time nope).

This is my first Socom, but I'm thinking the game will get a little tougher (better) as some of the masses leave. Right now I've noticed a lot of players in public rooms who try to play the game like your typical shooter. Killing them is much easier than killing Socom vets.

If you've never played a SOCOM game, definitely stick with World of War. They offer entirely different experiences from each other. I've played the World of War beta, and it's pretty good - much better than Treyarch's last effort COD3.

Don't get me wrong, SOCOM is a good game, but it offers a much different experience. It's a lot more tactical in its presentation, while WOW is more theatrical.

It's not ... its more so, if you enjoyed COD4 and want a fresh setting and more perks and stuff then you will like this game ...

its not drastically different than COD4 and is not "better" than COD4 as that is opinion since these 2 games are so very close to the same ... people can like it more or hate it more ... that is bottom line opinion.
