Help With Panasonic Sc-pt950!

we got this system a few days ago and it sounds great, especially in our small living room. but this system came with a upscaling dvd player instead of just a reciever. so i was wondering if i could get the audio from my tv(and bluray player) to play through my sound system if we connect it to the tv by HDMI(which we dnt have at the moment)?

From what I could see, it doesn't have any audio inputs at all.

CONS:
- Limited inputs. Inexplicably, the device has only 1 ipod/auxiliary input and 1 set of RCA inputs to receive input from your TV or any other device. So you don't get surround sound (only basic stereo or simulated "super surround") for anything but the DVD player. So the audio from the TV can be output to all 5 speakers, but it's not true 5.1 surround without the discrete center channel. And you can forget about adding any other media device (HD DVD or Blu Ray player) to the system. I ended up routing all my other media players (archos, dvd recorder) thru the TV instead of to the panasonic home theater. It may be worthwhile to invest in the 1050 model which has an optical input.

Your only option is Red/white RCA, but then you will get only Stereo.

I couldn't tell when I looked at the pic. I saw the RCA plugs but they weren't labelled either in or out, but were right next to a component out, so I figured out.

aww crap. i guess well just have to buy the next model up. and we got it off ebay by the way.

If you're not certain as to what exactly you will need to get in order to accomplish what you want... pop in here and give the model number BEFORE you buy so someone can check it out for you.

the model i currently have is the sc-pt950. the one i think i need is the sc-pt1050

That one has one optical input which would allow you to get Dolby Digital from one component. If your tv has an optical output, you could run the audio out from the tv for whatever component was playing through the tv; but it is HIGHLY unlikely that it would be Dolby Digital 5.1. Most tv's will only pass 2 channel audio from their optical outputs from anything that was plugged into the tv via hdmi.
