I am looking to buy a first time player for my dad on the Amazon sale today ($100 off with 4 blus). He has been reluctant to upgrade so I'm probably just going to force Blu onto him. He has a pretty nice 720p projector onto a screen of over 110'', so you can see why I want him to get a player.
What does everyone think about the Samsung BD-P1500 or Panasonic DMP-BD35K, there's only a $16 price difference on Amazon, so I dunno which one to get. In terms of his audio receiver, he has a decent 5.1 channel system but it doesn't take HDMI and I think he'll upgrade himself once he sees the light of Blu. When he does upgrade receivers though, I'm sure he wouldn't want to spend more than $600. What would you get? |

I have the Samsung BD-P1500, love it, I upgrade the firmware using a thumbdrive and its simple to do from the website, it decodes DTS-MA and TRUE HD audio or bitstreams it out. I have had no problems with this player and love the sleek design...good luck!

I also have the BD-P1500, and I love it. Many people judge Samsung by their previous products who were not that good but am very happy with my BD-P1500

I will never buy another Samsung BD player again, they have been nothing but trouble & firmware updates never come. There rushed out to the public, then Samsung DROPS SUPPORT for the pieces of junk 2 months later

Panny, if you go read the reviews on cnet, you will see why it is considered the editors choice. and the support from panasonic is top notch, main reason i bought another panny when I bought my new BD35K. I have the discontinued BD10AK and they still send me the firmware updates via the mail.

Once burnt, twice shy. I had the Sammy 1400 and it was a nightmare. The Panny 35 is pretty much bulletproof. FW downloads are a snap and the learning curve is minimal.
