Default Canadiens to retire Roy's No. 33 at the Bell Centre

Canadiens to retire Roy's No. 33 at the Bell Centre. What are thoughts ? Is this too soon ? I truly think he deserves to have his jersey retired . He's done a lot for the club. More info at http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=2568...=topStory_main

I don't.

He was a whiny little pr**k in his time, and telling his son to pick a fight? Sorry, that shouldn't be retiring a number or hall-of-fame stature that's just plain stupid.

I feel that people's numbers should be retired for good sportsmanship as well as accomplishments in the game itself. Like inductions into the Hall-of-Fame.

What does that have to do about his time as a Canadien?
Roy was the reason that Montreal won the Stanley Cups in the 87 and 93. He also won the Conn Smythe trophy for both of the Stanley Cups too. I'd say that he deserves to have his number retired by the Canadiens.

2 Stanley Cups?

Wow. Color me impressed. /not

Fanboyism aside what has he done for the game or the community that shows him to be of legendary status? He won the most games as a goalie? That's soon to be defeated by Brodeur.

What did he do in Montreal? He whined and complained until he got traded. He is the Eric Lindros of Montreal.

Doesn't matter if you think he did MORE for Colorado. He won 2 cups over there, he won 2 cups for us here. He was the youngest person to receive the Conn Smythe trophy and he did that with the Canadiens in his rookie season. He won 10 overtime wins in the stanley cup playoffs in 93 to win us the cup. I could go on but those two are more than enough. Roy's legacy in Montreal was ended because of a stupid coach that ruined what would have been more cups for the Canadiens.

Roy's antics with his son should be judged as a coach but in no way should it reflect on his playing career for the Canadiens. The guy is a warrior and there is no denying it. The guy who gave it all every game he played. The ceremony was beyond classy (once again) and I'm glad it finally happened. It should have happened sooner but better late than never.

Correction, he won the cup in 1986 and 1993 with the Habs.

And your blaming it on the coach proves that you're bias {or a fanboy} towards Roy.

He got yanked and threw a hissy fit. That's not the greatest way to end your career with a team.

How many players {back in the day} won more cups with the Canadiens and don't have their numbers retired?

His antics as a coach should certainly reflect on his career because it reflects upon him as a person. Judge the whole thing or not at all.

why is it even in question if he should have his number retired by the habs? if it was, they wouldn't be doing it this soon.

i feel like some of you guys are trying to put this in the same league as the rays retiring wade boggs number.

If you know anything, you'd know it was because the coach left him in the game until the Red Wings scored 9 goals against him. Most people (bozo's included) know that you put the back up in way before that.

It was ONE game, they were having an off night. If you lose by 1 or you lose by 7 it's still going as a loss in the loss column.

I doubt you've ever played the goaltender position (maybe even sports in general), but you don't leave the goalie in the game if he's having a bad night. After 4 or 5 goals against, you put the back-up in. If you leave him in for 9 goals you're embarassing him in front of the team and fans alike.

Are you a Leafs fan or a Red Wings fan? Has to be the only reason I can think of that you'd hate Roy and/or the Canadiens.

Neither.

And I don't hate the guy, I think that whiny sniveling brats shouldn't have their numbers retired when there are plenty of other options out there.
