Arrow Battlestar Galactica coming to a theater near you...

Now, before you get too excited (or disappointed) it's not based on the Sci Fi series, it's based on this one:

Quote:
Fridays only mean one thing ’round these parts - Battlestar Galactica. But this nugget of news doesn't concern the acclaimed SciFi Channel series, instead, Universal is planning to bring the Human/Cylon battle to theatres with original creator Glen A. Larson. This adaptation would be solely based on the first BSG series that ran in the late 1970s and would follow none of the continuity established by Ronald D. Moore's recent reboot. For the uninitiated, the Battlestar Galactica canon follows a desperate fleet of human survivors on the run from the Cylons, a cybernetic race that destroyed their colonial homeworld.

This also isn't the first time Battlestar Galactica has hit the big screen. However, those previous endeavors were merely re-edited television episodes from the original series and not stand-alone theatrical properties. Now, as a rabid BSG fan, one may think that my excitement to see Galactica and the Old Man on the silver screen would know no bound. Sadly, my reaction is more along the lines of - Why? After the great success of SciFi's BSG reboot and their upcoming Caprica prequel series, why would Universal want to revert back to the original continuity (and reboot this again) for a new feature film? Is there any good reason at all?

Sure, we would be without today's reboot entirely if it weren't for Larson's version originally, but is now really the time for a completely incongruous big screen adaptation? Are people really pleading to see Starbuck return to the character's original masculine form? I, personally, am not. Perhaps I'm just too close to Moore's version of Galactica to be appreciative of this.

How about because it will Kick ^$$.

Anybody who would like to have an idea of what "could have been", hunt down Richard Hatch's trailer he made back when talk of a new BSG started. It looked amazing for something made out of pocket. As much as I like the reboot, this is what I really wanted.

Although i enjoy the new BSG, the older one was much much better in my opinion. I will love to see this as a movie although there will be some tough shoes to fill as the original actors owned those roles.

Jason strikes again....

I found it interesting that it will be based on the 70's TV show, which I actually grew up watching and liked alot, and not the current tv show plot line.

It will also be interesting to see who the actors will be.

I think that would be cool.

I'm pretty frustrated with the new series right now. In the 'Razor' mini-movie they showed the old school Cylons, said they were a lost Cylon tribe or something - and then nothing more was said. WTF???

There's so many unanswered questions and plot lines that were started and seemingly abandoned that I just can't see them resolving them in only 4 episodes.

Methinks this will be one of the most disappointing series endings ever.

Thing is, there is no way they can make it the way it was in the 70s, so it will effectively be a re -re boot.
And personally, considering how much better I find the new BSG, I cannot help but ask why as well.

Ah well, we'll see. Can't have enough Space Opera movies made anyway, and we're pretty much down to Star Wars The Clone Wars these days anyway (ugh).

Chill out old guy.

The new kids and their new toys will get off your lawn. *LOL*

The old series is campy as hell, kinda like how badly the Bionic Woman turned out. That's what happens when errant producers of Battlestar Galactica get their way with old TV series'.

I watched the original BSG on TV, and have the complete series (Only one year) on DVD's. I personally find it much more entertaining than the new series. Although I am not sure how you would replace Lorne Green, I would welcome a new BSG movie. Lots of action, lots of fighting, brave warriors, gorgeous girls, bring it on.
