Unhappy Flu or Food Poisoning?

Today at work, we had a thanksgiving party. Plenty of food abound. Ate some deli sliced turkey, stuffing, gravey and mashers. A few hours later, I started to feel weighed down. Just thought it was the food. However towards the end of the night, I got weak, chilli, my muscles ached. Went home, took a shower and the cold shakes set in. Felt lile I was freezing. Turned up the heat and piled on the blankets. Still cold but I slept after the shivering subsided.

Half hour a go, I spring out of bed and bareley make it to the bathroom. Let's just say it was like a scene from the exorcist. After puking my guts out, I felt better. However, I am lying in bed with bareley enough energy to post this. Taken me 20 minutes so far. I am drained. Thank whoever for my iphone!

So does that sound like flu or food poisoning? Had no previous signs today. Was just fine

Sounds more like food poisoning to me.
I just got rid of the flu and had similar symptoms, but no throwing up or the stomach sick feeling. If it's not any better tomorrow you should see a doctor.
Especially if you still have the chills and keep having deja vu moments about that special Exorcist scene. Food poisoning can be pretty dangerous, depending on what you ate... undercooked turkey as dangerous as undercooked chicken?

Drink lots of water so your body keeps hydrated. Tea if you can (something soothing for the stomach) and eat some chicken soup or broth, or crackers. If you can keep that down you should be alright.

Maybe check with your coworkers if someone else got sick?!

Hope you feel better soon!

I just had the pleasure of another purge job. All my juice I drank is gone. Going to see if someone can get me some Gatorade. Chills appear to be gone. I have one he'll of a headache. I hope nobody else is going through this. Not fun.

Thanks for the get well!

Definitely sounds like food poisoning. You should call some of your co-workers and see if they have any problems. A catered lunch sickened about 30 people where I work a few years back.

I had a flu shot so ... would have been food poison-ing for me.

Catering must be stressful. Sometimes you make all your clients ill and then it's pretty clear who's at fault (to some extent).

I hope you feel better. I rarely barf but I expect to feel better right after.

Either way I'd see your doctor. I had something like this a while back, and the doc told me it was good I came in. Depending on the severity and what caused it, it could really screw up your system and is sometimes fatal. If you have other factors that affect your liver (like Hep-A because some fool at Waffle House didn't wash their hands after crapping) then you want to get checked out to make sure it's not too serious a case.

That's happened to me a couple of times. If you're lucky, you'll recover in less than 12 hours. If not, it could last for days.

Def. food poisoning. Go see your doctor if your don't feel better.

The headache could be a combination of the illness/dehydration/low sugar. Try to keep the Gatorade down if you can. If you continually vomit then go straight to the doctor.

I think this is just a ploy to get out of going to thanksgiving dinner with the family! You can admit it to us, we won't forward the thread to your family, we promise.

On a more serious note, I hope that you get better soon!

I am leaning towards food poisoning too. This morning I am feeling 60% better than I was last night. I am able to walk around and even sit in a chair. Lol. Something in my body did not like whatever it was that I ate obviously. I have never had the flu come on that quick, that fast and cause me to vomit like that. Only happened once and that was many years ago.

Yes, after throwing up - you feel a lot better than you did before. However, you get a massive headache that feels like you have 30 people banging on your head with hammers. Took some advil for that, hopefully it stays down.

I am still a bit weak. Not going to press my luck with food at all. Maybe just some water/gatorade for now. I feel like I am ghost white too. Can move and walk, but can not do it fast. Gotta go slow.

No doctor visits as I have no insurance.

I will find a doctor if things do not improve or go down hill (they are getting much better).

Yeah, if I throw up more - going to a doctor. Right now, I am drinking iced tea. Oh it feels so good. Such simple things makes one feel better during sickness. Lol.

You need to get insurance even if it means no more blu's and selling part of your collection. I had something wrong wtih me similar to what you described, and it cost me something like $600 out of pocket for all the tests and exams I went through. If I didn't have insurance, it would have been 10 times that amount.

If you can afford 100+ blu's, you can afford health insurance.

Yes, even though I hate Kaiser(THEY'RE THE DEVIL), I would be lost without it. Prescriptions alone can kill your wallet.

I have had a few scripts run me $150 or so. Never really understood the health care system. Seems like it's there to help people that don't need it and take advantage of the ones that do.

EVERYbody needs health insurance. Medical emergencies account for more bankruptcies than any other life-event.

If you're young and healthy, you can just get a high deductible plan so that way if you end up getting something nasty you only have to pay the 6k deductible instead of a 40k hospital bill. Only something like $60-80 per month, thats like 3 or 4 blus.

That's not bad at all. I thought it was 200+ a month honestly. However, a lot of the info on these things is kinda jibberish to me. PPO, HMO - etc etc. Very confusing.

I believe that if you get in a car accident and the hospital can't find proof of insurance their only responsibility is to stabilize you and transfer you to a lesser hospital that takes indigents. For instance if you loose and arm, they are not going to try to reattach it. Too expensive for someone without insurance. At least this is what I was always told...

The biggest thing right now, drink as many fluids as you can to prevent dehydration. Even if it won't stay down, still try to drink as much as you can. It will also prevent dry heaves if you are vomiting to much.

Yeah...ppo vs hmo is confusing, but I think HMO is better. I would research it because what you need vs hwat I need could be totally different. An HMO is what I have, but the portion of insurance that I pay is a LOT less than what my employer pays. Good insurance, though so I don't have too much to complain about.

I don't know how true this is....maybe it varies state to state? PA hospitals cannot refuse ER patients treatment. You'll be required to pay the bill (which will be high), but they must treat you no matter what. MA hospitals were the same if I remember right.
