Exclamation Good 7.1 HD speaker set for around 200$

You think THIS would be good for the Onkyo TX-SR606? I'm just concerned with the size. What kind of nails to I need to mount the speakers on the wall and does it come with all the cables?

thanks

What I would do

The Onkyo with shipping will put you at $260
now I have heard Onkyo speakers and as much as I love my 605 they do not make the best speakers.

I am not just saying get this because I own them but I will tell you to go to the the store and test the Polk Rm6750 (5.1 for $200) and you can buy 2 satelite Polk rm6751 for 40 each free shipping so your total would be $280

for $20 more I say the Polk are way worth it and you will not be sorry. I just dont like Onkyo speakers and they are big and bulky but I will say go to a store and hear what you like more

I've had these speakers before and they're decent, but nothing special. They're a good deal for the price since you get seven large speakers and a decent sub with the sub being the highlight. The center channel leaves something to be desired and the sound of the surrounds is a bit muddy. The front left and right speakers are pretty good though. They are not bad for starters, but you will definitely want to upgrade eventually. The Polks have the edge in the sound quality department, but the center speaker also is a bit lacking. The sub is pretty weak also. You get five speakers and a sub in this package, so both setups have their pluses and minuses. If you plan on wall mounting then the Polks would probably be better since they're satellites. The Onkyos are pretty heavy and bulky for wall mounting although they do have nail hooks on the back of the surrounds. In the long run you are probably better off spending a little more on a better satellite package. You may want to look at THIS package. This company's speakers are starting to gain some attention and for good reason. They are owned by the same company that owns Marantz, Denon, Boston Acoustics, etc. and they've made it a point not to tout that fact. People over at avsforum have been digging around on these have a good thread going. HERE is that link so you can see what people are saying. HERE is a review that I stumbled upon where they're compared to the Insignia speakers that people seem to like on this forum. I've also read the Men's Health review on them and they liked them a lot. I know that its a health mag, but they've given some good reviews on the latest technology. I'd say its worth a consideration especially at that price. Oh yeah, that review that I linked to was for their bookshelf speakers but the speakers I suggested are their satellites since that seems to be your preference. They're site offers a lot options to piece together the desired system want too.

Go to the Hot Deals Forum and check out the deal Boston Acoustics has on their entry-level satellite line.

Or! Try fluance.com for a great set of speakers as well:

You will have to buy speaker wire seperately from the speakers.

Which of THESE cables would be good for the Polk Rm6750 ( 8ohm) and what length for a 15 1/2ft. by 11ft. bedroom and 7 speakers?

you would be ok with 16awg wire. (CL 2 rated just because its a nicer look)

...as for length?? you can never have too much monoprice wire! Get more than you think you need, better to have more than not enough.

EDIT: would just like to add my pleasure with monoprice...I just ordered a couple cables a few hours ago, and I've already got my usps tracking number for delivery...although being a Holiday, Im hoping to get it by monday!

That should do just fine with that room size. May I also add that you won't be sorry you bought the polks. They make very good speakers for the money. COupled with that receiver you should be very satisfied.

I kind of regret jumping the gun when I see everybody recommend Polk speaker packages, but I love my Onkyo speakers. I ended up getting the SKS-HT240 speaker package based on reviews alone. It was only a 6.1 system so I bought an extra pair of the same speakers from Overstock. Worked out beautifully.

You might want to use screws instead. And they do not come with nails. I believe some HTiB's come with screws but not the good ones.
