Default PQ of Pansonic 85U, 800U and 850U

Hi guys,

I went to Magnolia today and was comparing the PQ of 50" 85U with 50" 850U, it looks like 850U has noticably better PQ than 85U. I made the sales man put both the TVs on same picture mode. It looks like they are running on same feed, but not sure how they were connected.

Is there really that much big difference in PQ between these sets? 800u is only $260 more if i order through 6Ave electronics, i paid $1525 for 85U.

800U and 850U owners please comment on its 24p capabiliity.

What do you guys say? is it worth spending another $300 on 800 for better PQ?

don't know what your money situation is, but I would suggest the 800u unless you really want the internet capabilities of the 850u....

There all very nice sets, I love my two 50" 800u's I have, & don't have any 24p flicker problems. My big boy, the 65" 850u is too sweet to even talk about LOL! It's also ISF calibrated which makes it have the best pic I have ever seen, & I have a 60" pioneer Kuro elite!

I noticed the flicker of 24p on my 800u only when the screen was paused. I was watching Apocolypto, and could only notice the flicker when the blu ray disc was paused. So far, no big deal. I stuck with 24p, though I'm feeling hard pressed to notice a difference either way.

Is it normal for a plasma to emit a "buzzing sound" only audible when the sound is muted, and you're within a few feet of the set? I seem to have a personality disorder where I look for flaws. Please kill me.

Guys,

I went to Magnolia again with my blu ray player (Panasonic BD55) and played Iron Man in 24p on 850U, to check the flicker issue. Yes, the flicker do exist and its bad and unwatchable. I am not a pro but thats what i have seen. Just wanted to let you guys know.

Thanks

As I posted in the other thread where the flicker "problem" was being batted around:

I would not be concerned with the so-called "flicker" problem with 24p playback on the 800/850U. From what I have read, it is how playback is supposed to look (filmic) and can be turned-off if it really bothers you. Per dobyblue in the thread linked below:

Quote:
There may be some issue with some runs of the TH-50PZ800U in the processing upon further research, but I see NO mention of the "problem" some people notice on any of the 58" 800U models and any of the 50", 58" and 65" -850U models nor is there any consistency with the so-called "unwatchable" flicker on the 50" -800U model.

It is certainly not the epidemic you seem to be making it out to be by making blanket statements that all the -800 and -850 series have some inherent flaw in the 48Hz mode.

bottom line is, you do not have to use the 24p mode if you see a flicker problem.. but if that is only difference than if you are not using that mode you could stick with lower model..

I found myself wanting the 58" though which is not available in lower models, and I also wanted the higher contrast ratio.. to each his own
