As I posted in the other thread where the flicker "problem" was being batted around:

I would not be concerned with the so-called "flicker" problem with 24p playback on the 800/850U. From what I have read, it is how playback is supposed to look (filmic) and can be turned-off if it really bothers you. Per dobyblue in the thread linked below:

There may be some issue with some runs of the TH-50PZ800U in the processing upon further research, but I see NO mention of the "problem" some people notice on any of the 58" 800U models and any of the 50", 58" and 65" -850U models nor is there any consistency with the so-called "unwatchable" flicker on the 50" -800U model.

It is certainly not the epidemic you seem to be making it out to be by making blanket statements that all the -800 and -850 series have some inherent flaw in the 48Hz mode.

Richshoe, I dont think the flicker i saw is filmic, its really bad and unwatchable. After watching it i decided to keep my 85U

bottom line is, you do not have to use the 24p mode if you see a flicker problem.. but if that is only difference than if you are not using that mode you could stick with lower model..

I found myself wanting the 58" though which is not available in lower models, and I also wanted the higher contrast ratio.. to each his own

honestly all the panny sets have amazing PQ which ever one you choose to get will blow you away. i have the 80u and love it!
