What is Magnolia?
I'm looking at getting a new TV and I think i'm going with the 58" Panny 1080P. But they have 2 models for different prices. All things LOOK the same except one (The more expensive one) says something about Magnolia??? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2210029&catId= |

Magnolia is Best Buy's higher end home theater sister store. They have stand alone Magnolia stores in some states and started doing a "store within a store" design a couple of years ago in a lot of the Best Buy stores.
It's not just about the size. The Pioneer Elite Kuro's are pretty widely regarded as the best TV's available. Last edited by BStecke; 12-07-2008 at 03:37 AM. |

From what I'm reading, the 850u supports a wider color gamut than the 800u, but drops the THX mode, which, again from what I'm reading, you don't really need, especially if you're going to get it professionally calibrated (which is always recommended). It also adds a couple more options as far as picture tweaks.

Its universally agreed that that particular Pioneer is the best you can currently get, BUT...is it truly worth the huge price difference to you? Every expert review that I've read says that its better than Panasonic's top models, but not by much. In fact, none of the reviewers could even tell without them being side by side. And even then they had to thoroughly scrutinize the two. It all boils down to how much you are willing to spend on a tv at a certain size. For instance, THIS 58" Panny on Amazon is just under $3000 with free shipping. Now is 2" and a slightly better picture worth $2000 more to you? Even cheaper is THIS 58" Panny at just under $2600 with free shipping. How about THIS 65" Panny for $5300 free shipping. If you're gonna spend five grand then I think the extra 5" is worth the trade off of a slightly better picture. Just my opinion, but I don't have thousands to throw around for minor gains in picture quality.
