Default Onkyo - SR805 No Sound Problem

Soo.... I come home today, And find that I have no sound coming from anything on PS3. My brothers say they were playing Soul Caliber "when the sound just went out".

I start trouble shooting, checking Onkyo Settings and PS3 Settings.... Didn't come up with anything.

So I decided to switch inputs... with my HD-DVD player which did have sound.

Once switched... The HDDVD player didn't have sound but the PS3 did.

Only thing I can think of is that the HDMI Input is bad.... But I never heard of such a problem.

Anyone mind helping me troubleshoot further?

I had an HDMI input go bad on a Sony HTiB receiver I'd had for about a year. It wouldn't recognize anything that was plugged into the HDMI input, but all devices played fine on other inputs.

If you switched playback units to find that PS3 works on a different HDMI slot, I think that you already have the answer to your dilemma. A bad HDMI input.

Never heard of a Bad HDMI.... Is the only reason why I asked.

I really dont want to send it back to Crutchfield or Onkyo conisidering.... I wont have it for a while plus not telling what shipping cost will be.

At least video still works in the input... Guess when I get my HD receiver for DirectTV ill run the video through HDMI input that is bad and Audio through Optical.

Try calling Onkyo's tech support...they are very helpful and will trouble shoot with you to narrow the problem down and find exactly what it is.

If in fact you do have a defective receiver, i would def send it back. Its your money and you shouldn't settle for anything less than a properly working product.

As far as shipping costs go...whoever you bought the receiver from should eat the cost of the shipping. Its not your fault the receiver was defective.

Good Luck

When you switched, did you unplug the cable from the HDMI on the 805 or from the PS3/HD player?

If it was from the former, you may just have a bad HDMI cable.

last ditch effort... unplug the receiver, wait 60 seconds, then re-power
there is also a way to do a factory reset, but I don't have the manual here
ask Crack !!
