Default Onkyo TS-SR805

After a lot of contemplating, I finally picked myself up an Onkyo TX-SR805. I know it got excellent reviews, but I've always been a Sony type of guy and as such have always had sony receivers. I have no experience with Onkyo whatsoever, plus this model was about twice the price of what I am used spending on a receiver.

Oh, and about twice as heavy as well...

Anyway, So far I am glad I got this receiver. The sound is nice and crisp and the dialog seems to be much clearer as well. There are however a couple of things I don't fully understand yet.

For starters, everytime I turn up the volume, the displays shows the xxdB's as going down. How does that work?

Secondly, when I did a "auto" config in my PS3, it only detected 5.1. I did a manual config and enabled every single option there was to enable ... such as pcm 7.1 48khz, pcm 7.1 96khz etc. After doing so it gave me a warning that incorrect settings can destroy the receiver/speakers. Can anyone confirm this particular receiver can indeed handle all those settings?

Lastly, for those with this receiver ... do you like?
