Default DVD Upconversion on PC

Can a Blu-Ray drive in my PC also upconvert my standard DVD media to 1080p? If so, what type of connection to my display? Can I use DVI, or do I have to get a video card with HDMI output?

I believe WinDVD 9 is one of the better DVD upconverters out there. You can use DVI to see upconverted video.

Are all Blu-Ray drives for PC capable of this, as long as the correct software is in place?

It's the software, not the drive.
WinDVD 9 does the best job with it's "All2HD" capabilities, but PowerDVD will do a good job as well.

WMP even upscales, though it tends to be pretty soft even with hardware acceleration turned on for whatever dvd codec you are using.
