PS3 v2.52 vastly improved BD playback stability - Blu-ray Forum

**Pre-2.52 firmware**

I must be one of the unlucky ones on BD playback on PS3. It really looked like a crappy drive or a thermal problem.

My PS3 would frequently go into a seizure on a variety of BDs during
playback - everything from Sunshine, Matrix Ultimate, National Treasure - you name it - it would freeze. If I managed to exit gracefully it wouldn't "see" a disc when the disc was ejected and then re-inserted. It would require a hard power off to reset the drive. Even after successful playback and graceful exit to XMB it couldn't replay the same disc!

Time for a trip to the repair depot I thought (worse thing this problem wasn't reproducible...the seizure happened at different spots on the same disc)

**2.52 firmware**

Amazingly 2.52 seems to have corrected everything - BDs playback fine, chapter jumping, stopping, restarting, auto-resume (on non-BDJ discs), soft power off and on again - all seems to be working as it should be.

I am curious whether anyone else has experienced this - seriously 2.50 was the absolute worse - I couldn't finish playback thru' any disc. pre-2.50 was touch 'n go. I am

I'm so hesitant to update my PS3 now. I'm still 2 updates behind, I think. You shouldn't fix what's not broken, I've always believed.

I don't know what to make out of the v 2.52 update. On one hand I hear great things about it, but then I also hear alot of people saying negative things after the installation... for the record, my PS3 has never given me any sort of problem, and mine is running on the v 2.50 update... now I really don't know if I want to update it to v 2.52 now...

I'm not sure whether its a problem with V2.52 but for some reason I cannot get American Psycho to play. I insert the disc, get as far as the disclaimer for the audio commentaries/ interviews, then....nothing. Has anyone else had problems with this or certain other discs? I dont play it enough to know whether this issue was pre V2.52 or post V2.52.

Yeah I haven't updated my ps3 since dts hdma was added just seems to be some issues with these updates bricking there ps3.

I always apply every update as soon as the PS3 tells me a new version is available, and I've never yet had a problem.

I had no problem viewing the movie but I watched it before the last update..

I have a question about the new version (2.52) I've d/l it and when I went to update my PS3 it says "No applicate data found." What did I do wrong? I did step by step the playstation website said to do (create a PS3 folder then a UPDATE in the PS3 folder and then save the file in the UPDATE folder.

I don't understand what you are doing. is your ps3 not connected to the internet? If it is all you do is on the start screen of the ps3 you go to update and download. Its very simple. If it is not connected to the internet, then why is it not connected?

I have a flashdrive and I d/l the update that way.

Same here. I update both of mine as soon as an update is available and I've never had an issue. Even the update that was later recalled, worked fine on both of mine.

make sure your flash drive is formatted to fat32 and not some other file system.

I hate to d/l the whole update again, and if I do I'll have to d/l it by dialup because when I d/l the update earlier it was at my aunts house where they have dsl.

How do I even do that? The last update (2.50) I was able to d/l that easy with my flashdrive.

Bump for anyone who might know why I can't install the 2.52 system update. I've done all the steps the playstation message board said to do. (I have a USB jumpdrive)

What I don't get is the website said to make a new folder, then make another folder inside of that and capitalise the word (UPDATE) then save the file in the UPDATE folder.

i dont update mine either....im waiting for update 5.0! I have read that your PS3 will grow legs and arms, walks to your frige, gets you a beer, opens it and then serves it to you!
