PS3, DLINK-655, best way to avoid lag

hey community

so i recently just purchased a dlink-655 gigabit router since my older one lost wireless connection way way too much.

so im just seeing whats the best way while online gaming on my ps3 to avoid horrible lag.

my sister and I do use utorrent and everything were downloading, my ps3 suffers from quite a large amount of lag. heres what ive done to help the lag and was wondering for anymore advice.

1. ive set up the ps3 ip as static and put it into the dmz
2. i have a QOS thing and i put it at priority 1

after these steps i can dl on utorrents at about a 250kbs speed without any really noticeabe lag.

BUT... im currently running only a cat5 ethernet cable from my router to my ps3. I have a 5e cable from the cable modem to my router. and my router service says its up to 10mbps in downloading, http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsSer...rnet/Xtreme-I/

so with only having a cat5 cable running into my ps3 from router, am i losing any more speed than i could have.

if i change over to a cat6 from modem to router and cat6 from router to ps3 would i actually be using the 1000tx that the router and ps3 can use???
