Default Onkyo SR606 with new Sony BDP-S350

I just got my first Blu-Ray player (Sony BDP-S350). I hooked it into my Home theater system. My Audio is a Onkyo SR606, with only a 5.1 setup at the moment.. Hope to add two more speakers to make it 7.1 in the near future. All hooked up to my projector.. All connections are HDMI.

My question is the sound.. I just can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. My system on Satellite, or through my old DVD system had excellent surround sound.. But of the few Blu-Ray movies I have watched so far while the picture is excellent, the sound just isn't right. I am just not getting the surround like I would think I should.. Nothing like the regular DVD's with the Dolby Digital 5.1. I know it must be a setting that I have wrong somewhere, or do I just have incompatible equipment.. I hate my first post has to be a question.. But I really am perplexed. Tried searching but didn't find anything that really helped me.. I figured there might be someone out here who has gotten these two pieces of equipment to sound good.
