Default Comic book suggestion/help

Looking for gifts for my GF. She has been into reading comics lately but, as I never was a comic book person, I don't know enough to blindly go shopping. Of recent, we've read Watchman, and she has been into Batman and Transmetropolitan. She is particularly into the Scarecrow for Batman and, there seems to be alot of Batman out there so unsure what to go for there. Also, she's read others like Ghost World, The Escapist, Persepolis, Maus...Any help would be greatly appreciated as she is in the "don't get me anything" for xmas faze so she is of no help.

I don't read comics but I know of a few. I'd recommend Arkham Asylum for Batman. Maybe some other Alan Moore stuff like From Hell.

You should really read Chosen by Mark Millar. Very good graphic novel.

I believe Chosen and Civil War are based around Captain America...She has been interested in getting into CA but, I don't know where to begin. She was looking at Death of CA Fallen Sons but, I don't know if this is the lead up to his death or after his death and the aftermath.

edit: actually never mind the above, they both have series as a part of Captain America but Chosen by Mark Millar is something different...and Cival War looks like it is various other characters.

Chosen is different. It's a very good stand alone story. I recommend it to everyone.

I bet she would like The Sandman trade paperbacks. The whole series has been released in both hardback and trade paperback form. Other series to look into might be "Preacher" or "Y the Last Man".

Batman: Long Halloween is another fantastic story as well. There's another one, Dark Victory, which is the sequel to Long Halloween, which I've never read, but I've never not liked anything I've read from Loeb/Sale. Superman For All Seasons is another one by that team that's a good read. It's a four part series in Superman's early career with each issue told from a different character's point of view (Pa Kent, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, & Lana Lang).

That's good to know as she has Long Halloween but not Dark Victory.

Thats another good one, which I forgot to mention. I never got around to finishing the series though, but I think it's being developed into an HBO miniseries.

The Sin City series is excellent..and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is good also I think there is 2 parts to the story if I remember correctly.I would also recommend 2 other books by Alex Ross..

Kingdom Come and Marvels...both excellent in the art and writing department.

marvel is not getting near the love it deserves. i would definitely check out the new mutants series and the original excalibur series. both are excellent. otherwise there have been some really good suggestions given. some i have read and others i hadn't, but have heard nothing but good things. if you are really getting in batman though, you have to pick up a death in the family. it's the best and only batman story worth reading. i'm kidding about it being the only one to read.

check out "the Authority" trade paperbacks, there are four of them I think. my wife loved them as well. very edgy and creative, not your normal super hero fare
