Default Onkyo users: What volume do you watch TV and movies at?

I was just curious what everyone uses for their volume settings. I usually watch TV around 30. Football around 40 and blu-rays around 50. Anyone else use something similar?

I keep mine at around 40 for all unless I am the only one home, then in the 30's for movies.

25-30 db's for Bd's,30 db's for TV and 40 db's for madden and other video games, it sucks i have to turn the AVR up that much to hear Bd's at a decent volume ,I plan on buying an amplifier soon.

Meh. This is kind of a relative question, but I'll play. 35-45 for TV, averaging at 40. Xbox 360 35-40 max. PS3/movies between 40-54, but usually in the upper 40's.

It's entirely dependent on your room size, the efficiency of your speakers, your own hearing level, ambient noise, and the recorded volume of the media. IE... it's going to be different for everyone.

My 805 goes up to 100 but I typically listen to everything at 60 but for some action movies such as the new Hulk movie, I tend to listen at 70 and then you can FEEL the Hulk smashing stuff with my MFW-15 at 1/3 gain

Note: My old Onkyo 505 or whatever it was, I would typically listen to everything at volume 30 which is about equivalent to my 805's volume 60. So asking people which volume they listen at depends on which receiver and also the impedence and sensitivity of the speakers.

0 is about normal for me on my 805 (I like it loud).

Note to Mods: There is a similar thread to this for any receiver, except, this is specifically for the Onkyo receivers which use a different volume system compared to other receivers for the most part. Do not merge it! That is all.

I would presume that the volume would be based upon the broadcast or recording, the system calibration, room size, and the efficiency of your speakers. I have an upgraded Onkyo PR-SC885. I use it with my upgraded Aragon Palladium 1K monoblock amps (125 watts class A or 400 watts AB at 8 ohms). These are used to drive my upgraded and rebuilt Dahlquist DQ10 speakers. These speakers are not nearly as efficient as many of the Polks or Klipsch speakers used by many here at Blu-ray.com. But, I believe that I watch TV usually at between 45-55. I watch Blu-ray movies at around 48-55 usually and CDs between about 50-60.

Rich

I don't really pay attention to the number; just whatever sounds right at the time.

There is a way to change the volume measurement to not do the negative DB rating too.

lol you're displaying relative volume just like me... meaning 0 is supposed to be "reference" volume... if you or i were to ever go to +60 the world might break in half! that would be way too loud!

Allstar, How do I set my receiver for "reference" volume? I always feel like I'm cranking mine up too loud to hear it properly.

About 45-ish for TV, around 58 to 60 for BDs. Onkyo 605.

with it displaying relative volume, provided you've done the audacity setup, 0 is "reference" volume... but 0 is far too loud for me lol
