I was watching superbad blu ray in my PS3 and it just randomly froze. I ejected it and put it back in to only a black screen. I tried restarting the maching, other blu rays, games, dvds etc but the PS3 won't recognize any disk.
All of the other features still work (psn store, downloaded games, etc.) Anything I can do? It's a 40gb i've had for less than a year from best buy. I did not purchase their warranty, but Sony should have a manufacturer warranty right? thanks! |

sony has a 1 year warranty. go to playstation.com then click ps3 and find the help section, you just find the problem and click on it ( ps3 won't read disk ) it will then walk you through how to send it in. i just did mine a couple weeks ago and it only took about a week to get back.

This happened to my 40 Gig on Wed. I was playing GTA IV and it froze. Then it wouldn't read Games or Blu-Rays. But the DVD player worked. Luckily I had the Best Buy warranty. I took it in 3 hours after it happened and got a 80 Gig + Motorstorm: Pacific Rift at no additional cost.

My 80gb with BC did this a few weeks ago. It took me about 10 days from the time I got the box from Sony to get it back. Everything has been working great. Just make sure you backup all of your save files, I'm sure you don't want to have to play through all those games again.

you wouldn't have to make a new one, you would just have to setup the ps3 and then create a user and log into your old name. make sure to back up game data you never know, however mine came back with all my data on it, but my theme had been reset. same serial number too. I think it might be the same one or a new one that had the number and hard drive swapped

Please define not recognizing any discs? When you put in the disc, does your PS3 see that its in the drive with a green light? Also does it show up on the XMB? What happens when you try playing a normal DVD, does it play well or do you only have issues with Blu-rays?
