Default Super Tweeters

I can't remember whose thread it was now, i think it was BigDaddy's, where the upgrading of a speaker is detailed... well anyways, it got me curious about Super Tweeters... what do they do? how will they benefit me? is it worth the money to add them on to my system?

Here is the link to the thread:

As to the use, they are used somewhat like a subwoofer to the low end of frequency response. They have to be dialed in in terms of crossover and volume at the high frequency end of the spectrum the way the sub is at the low end. They also have to be properly placed with your main speakers. You may not really hear them as much as sense the affect due to our loss of hearing in the over 12,000+ hz frequencies. Generally it is of benefit with very good or high end speakers rather than inexpensive speakers and they can cost from several hundred to several thousand dollars a pair new.

Super Tweeters essentially extends the frequency response of a speaker upwards an octave or two, giving the overall sound more "air" in the process. The effect is pretty subtle, as you do not get any real information in the highest of frequencies, but if the source has them (unfiltered 24/96khz or DXD based recordings) it will reproduce the signal, even if you cannot hear it. I found that they add a little "air" and space to recordings.

+1. I have super tweeters installed in the fronts of my home theater room, as well as in my 2 channel listening setup. It's definitely worth checking into if you have source material with the frequency extension to utilize them. They blend in really well on the top end with the ribbon tweeters in my speakers.

I think that at our price points and system range, allstar, super tweeters might offer a limited return. I could be mistaken though, but when looking at the setups of Grillz and Terrence - well, you see where I'm getting at. Take your dose of anti-upgradeitis!

True nuff... but what I've noticed is my Klipsch seem to roll off the highs sooner than a lot of other speakers i've demoed, and I would like to get some extended range
